Wilmington, Del.- The Georgian Court University softball squad dismissed its recent doldrums in a big way Thursday with a crucial Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) sweep at Goldey-Beacom College (4-19-1, 2-14 CACC) as the Lions short-circuited the Lightning, 13-2 (5 inn.) and 8-0 (6 inn.) to snap an eight-game slide.

The initial victory of the afternoon marked the 100th in the head coaching career of GCU field chief, Angie Churchill, as Georgian Court improved to 11-9 (12-26 overall) in conference play

GAME ONE

Georgian Court scored in all but one inning in the opening contest, including a mighty eight-run outburst in the last frame to coast to the five-inning triumph. 

All but one batter in the GCU lineup collected at least one hit and at least one run-batted-in. Five players, including: Stefanie Aplin (3-for-4, 3 R, 2 RBI), Alyssa Paradiso (2-for-3, 2 R, 2 RBI), Bryana Smith (2-for-3, 2 R, 2 RBI), Alycia Marsello (2-for-4, 2 R, RBI) and Dara Schroeder (2-for-4, 2 R) registered multi-hit efforts.   

Abby Merryman went the distance for the Lions to improve to 7-10 on the season (5.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 4 K).

GAME TWO

It was Katie Sorochka's turn to shine in the circle for GCU as the senior hurler moved to 5-10 on the year (6.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, BB, 5 K) with the shutout.

The Lions' bats continued to boom in the nightcap as they scored six runs in the first and an additional tally in the second and sixth to cruise to the blanking of the home team.

Schroeder (2-for-3, 2 R), Paradiso (2-for-4, R, 2 RBI), Kelly Hardiman (2-for-4, R, RBI), Stephanie Grainger (2-for-4, 2 R) and Sorochka (2-for-3) all collected two hits apiece as part of GCU's 12-hit outburst.

Georgian Court returns home to host Bloomfield College in another big CACC doubleheader this Saturday. Start time is 12:00 p.m.
