Lincoln University, Pa.- Six different players, including three with the first of their collegiate careers, found the back of the net for the Georgian Court University women's squad as the Lions cruised to a 7-0 non-conference victory Wednesday afternoon at Lincoln University (0-5).
GCU (3-1), winners of three straight, collects its second consecutive shutout. The margin of victory is the Lions' largest since blanking Concordia College, 8-0, on 10/13/14.
Tayler Bramley got things cranking for the Georgian Court offense as the junior scored the first two tallies (8:09, 30:03) of the contest, giving her three on the campaign.
Rachel Marino followed with her first goal since last season's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) quarterfinal shootout victory vs. Holy Family University to make it 3-0 visitors at 31:11.
Lizzy Kroon, the reigning CACC Player of the Week, deposited her conference-leading sixth goal at 34:19 before
Kaitlyn Salisbury (37:24) and
Megan Melchionne (43:20) scored the initial tallies of their respective careers, providing the Lions a comfortable 6-0 advantage heading into intermission.
With the outcome well in hand, the second half essentially was session of keep-away for the Lions until
Shannon Kingston acheived her first collegiate goal at 87:52 to put the final touch on the balanced triumph.
Georgian Court owned an eye-popping 33-5 shot advantage and a 6-2 corner kick surplus. Kroon,
Tori Capestro, Tuere Chisholm-Thomas, Melinda MacNeil, and
Shannon Kelly provided GCU's five assists on the day.
Casey O'Connor, the two-time recipient of CACC Defensive Player of the Week honors, registered her second straight blanking in the GCU net, collecting four saves on the afternoon. The shutout marked the 20th career solo effort for the senior shot saver.
The Lions now return home to host conference-foe Bloomfield College at noon this Saturday.
