Lakewood, N.J.- The first-place Georgian Court University women's soccer squad netted a season-best five goals Saturday for a 5-0 blanking of Dominican College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play, the team's sixth shutout of the year.
The Lions improve to 9-3-1 overall (7-1-1 CACC) while remaining undefeated on home turf at 5-0. The Lady Chargers slip to 4-10 (4-6 CACC) after the defeat.
Despite a 17-0 shot advantage after the first half of competition, GCU owned only a 1-0 lead heading into intermission. The scoring effort came courtesy of a
Tayler Bramley goal at 17:54, the senior's fourth of the year. It would be Bramley that would commence the Lions' second stanza flurry when she put the home team  ahead, 2-0, at 57:42.
Just 1:57 later, a well-hydrated
Morgan LaDuca, on a set play off a
Kaitlin Lister corner kick, sizzled a goal from beyond 20 yards to make it a 3-0 advantage for GCU. The tally marked the third of the year for the All-Region defender and represented Lister's second assist (seventh overall) of the contest.
Lizzy Kroon, making her first appearance in the royal and gold since September 10 because of injury, made her presence known immediately as the reigning CACC Player of the Year connected on a penalty kick at 75:16 for her first goal of the season.
Megan Melchionne concluded the Georgian Court onslaught with just 1:55 remaining as the senior pumped in a
Carolyn Stanton helper to seal the win.
GCU possessed an eye-popping 30-2 shot advantage and 11-1 surplus in the category of corner kicks.
Winning goalkeeper,
Natalie Axelsson, did not even witness a shot in the defensive domination of Dominican as the freshman earned the victory in 79:02 of action.Â
Georgian Court will next welcome Chestnut Hill College on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in CACC action as the Lions seek 10 or more wins for the 11th straight season.
