Five Unanswered Tallies Secures 11th Straight 10+ Win Season for GCU Women

Lakewood, N.J. When it comes to head coach Jim Moore and his Georgian Court University women's soccer squad, one adjective leaps to the forefront to this program ... consistency. Proof came in the form of a 5-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference home victory over Chestnut Hill College Tuesday afternoon, providing the Lions with their 10th win of the season (10-3-1, 8-1-1 CACC). The triumph marks the 11th straight season that GCU has acheived double-digits in the "W" column.

The Griffins (4-9-2, 2-7-1)  struck first in the contest as Cecilia Dumond (Fr.-Philadelphia, Pa.) netted her third of the year after gathering an Annalyse Culp (Sr.-Clayton, N.J.) feed at midfield and proceeded to chip a high bouncer over GCU's oncoming goalkeeper for the score.

Georgian Court answered with the equalizer 5:50 later (30:59) when Lizzy Kroon swiped in a Rosa Franze pass that glanced off a Chestnut Hill defender and on to the boot of the junior for her second tally of the year. With a 1-1 knotting at intermission, Kroon snapped the stalemate at 50:46 after depositing her second penalty kick in as many games, courtesy of an unfortunate handball in the box by the Griffins.

The Lions proceeded to break open the affair after the CHC miscue as Laura Nelson (53:15), Kristen Lister (67:11) and Anissia Fucci (71:29) each added their name to the scoring ledger. It marked the first goal for Nelson since October 22, 2013 when the then-freshman contributed the game-winner in a 1-0 nipping of NYIT.

As for Lister, the goal was the first of the freshman's collegiate career while Fucci increases her season total to three.

GCU, once again, dominated in the shot column with a 32-7 advantage and led by a 9-2 margin regarding corner kicks.

Natalie Axelsson continues to shine in net for the Lions as the freshman shot-blocker improves to 10-3-1 between the pipes after collecting four saves over 90:00.

It's back to the bus for Georgian Court as the Lions next travel to Concordia College Saturday morning for an 11:00 a.m. CACC contest.
