Clermont, Fla.- The Georgian Court University softball squad kicked off the 2016 campaign Sunday afternoon with non-conference contests vs. Seton Hill University and Notre Dame College (Ohio) in the annual PFX Spring Games.

GAME ONE (Box Score)

The Lions started the day falling to regional foe, Seton Hill, in a 7-6 final. 

The Griffins (1-1) appeared to have the victory in hand, carrying a 7-0 advantage after five frames, courtesy of six hits and four GCU errors.The Georgian Court lumber thawed in the top half of the sixth as the Lions rallied for three runs on four hits and a Seton Hill miscue.

Brianna LaFiura, in a pinch-hitting role, led off the frame with a triple that evaded the Griffins' right-fielder down the line. JoLei Buonanno proceeded to plate LaFiura with a ribbie groundout to second base. After chasing starting pitcher Hayley Morgan (Sr.-Gibsonia, Pa.), Alycia Marsello greeted reliever, Abbie Thrower (Fr.-Saxonburg, Pa.), with a ringing double to left-center. Kelly Hardiman followed with a single to left, bringing around pinch-runner Bryana Smith. Hardiman would advance to third on a Thrower wild pitch before scoring the Lions' third run of the frame, courtesy of a Stephanie Torrence sacrifice fly to center.

After GCU starter, Jessica O'Neil, mowed down the Seton Hill bats, one-two-three, in the home half of the sixth, it would be more of the same for the Lions' lineup in the top of the seventh and final frame as GCU added three more runs on three hits.

Stefanie Aplin jump-started the latest rally with a single to left, followed by a LaFiura base-on-balls. A Buonanno groundout advanced the runners, which set the table for Marsello who dropped a perfectly-placed single over the Seton Hill second baseman to bring in Aplin and move LaFiura to third. Hardiman would then get plunked to load the bags. After the Griffins' third pitching change of the game, Mikaela Power dialed up a two-run double to right-center, putting the Lions on the cusp of a stalemate.

Seton Hill would hold on to provide Morgan the victory (5.1 IP, H, R, ER, 3 BB, 2K). O'Neil, in her GCU debut, suffered the defeat, allowing zero earned runs on the afternoon (6.0 IP, 6 H, 7 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 3 K).

GAME TWO (Box Score)

Georgian Court closed out Day One on the wrong side of a 3-0 blanking vs. Notre Dame College (Ohio).

The two squads traded zeros for the first four frames before the Falcons (1-2) struck first with a two-spot in the top of the fifth, followed by an insurance tally in the subsequent inning.

Notre Dame's Alexis Burke (Fr.-Frederick, Md.) went the distance for the win in the circle, needing just 76 pitches to accomplish the feat (7.0 IP, 4 H, BB, 2 K). Angela Lakatos, in her first outing as a Lion, yield three runs (3 ER) on 10 hits and two free passes (1 K) in the complete-game effort.

The Lions return to the diamond Monday afternoon with contests vs. Tiffin University (3:00 p.m.) and Ferris State University (5:00 p.m.)
