Lions Falter in Regional Action vs. St. Anselm, Gannon ... Still Seeking First Victory of Trip

Clermont, Fla.- The Georgian Court University softball team reached the halfway mark of its annual trek to the PFX Spring Games as the Lions dropped regional decisions to St. Anselm College and Gannon University Tuesday morning, falling to 0-6 in the process.

GAME ONE (Boxscore)

Tuesday's opener got off to a promising start for the Lions as GCU compiled a 4-2 advantage after the first three frames vs. St. Anselm (2-3).

An Amanda Finn single up the middle put Georgian Court on the board in the top of the second while a Mikaela Power two-run triple and a ribbie single by Kelly Hardiman accounted for the Lions' runs in the third.

The euphoria would be short-lived for GCU as the Hawks countered with two runs in the fourth and a crooked six more in a fifth frame that consisted of five hits and three Georgian Court blunders, solidifying St. Anselm's 10-4 triumph.

Hardiman made her pitching debut for the Lions, permitting six runs (3 ER) on eight hits and three walks (4 K) in the five-inning start. Jessica O'Neil (0-3) suffered the defeat out of the bullpen, allowing four runs (3 ER) and five hits in her lone inning of action.

St. Anselm's Arika Brichu (Fr.-Augusta, Maine) was credited with the win with four innings of one-hit relief.

GAME TWO (Boxscore)

A run in the second and a five-spot in the fifth was more than enough to secure a 6-0 victory for Gannon University (3-3).

Olivia Gumbita (Jr.-Latrobe, Pa.) kept the Lions hitless until pinch-hitter Molly Jackson broke up the no-hit bid with a clean single through the left side with one out in the sixth inning. The Gannon hurler would permit only two hits, while striking out 11 GCU batters, in the impressive complete-game shutout win.

Finn (0-2) started in the circle for Georgian Court, yielding one run (0 ER) on four hits and a walk (3 K) in 3.0 innings of action.

After a much-needed day off on Wednesday, the Lions return refreshed on Thursday with games vs. Wheeling Jesuit University (9:00 a.m.) and Lake Erie College (11:00 a.m.).
