Orangeburg, N.Y.- The Georgian Court University softball squad suffered a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader sweep at the hands of rival-Dominican College Saturday afternoon as the Lady Chargers (10-7, 5-0 CACC) dismissed the Lions by scores of 10-2 (6 inn.) and 9-5.
Game One (Boxscore)A seven-spot by the home team in the bottom of the second quickly sealed the Lions' kismet as GCU (2-20) never threatened in the six-frame affair. Georgian Court tallied its two runs in the top of third inning, courtesy of
Bryana Smith's (1-for-3, 2 RBI) first long ball of the season.
Desiree Joines (So.-Stewartstown, Pa.) went the distance for Dominican, permitting the two runs (2 ER) on five hits (4 K) in the complete-game (6.0 IP) victory.
Amanda Finn suffered the defeat for GCU, lasting only 2.0 innings in the start (7 R, 7 ER, 10 H, K).
Game Two (Boxscore)Back-to-back jacks off the bats of
Kelly Hardiman (2-for-3) and
Alycia Marsello (1-for-4) to lead off the top of the second highlighted a five-run frame for the GCU offense. Dominican calmly responded with three in the bottom of the second, one in the third, and four more in the fourth to claim an 8-5 advantage that they would not relinquish.
Joines earned her second victory of the day in the circle for Dominican, this time in relief, as the hurler fired 5.2 innings of scoreless ball in the effort (3 H, BB, 4 K).
Angela Lakatos was tagged with the loss for the Lions (4.2 IP, 8 R, 8 ER, 12 H, 2 BB).
Caroline Abin (3-for-4) compiled GCU's second three-hit effort of the season at the dish.
Georgian Court returns to the road on Wednesday with a conference twin-bill at the University of the Sciences.
