Lakewood, N.J.- After being blanked 8-0 in game one, the Georgian Court University softball squad rebounded with an 8-4 victory in the nightcap to salvage a split vs. visiting Chestnut Hill College Tuesday afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action.
GAME ONE (boxscore)After three scoreless frames, the Griffins (11-31, 8-10 CACC) attacked with a four-spot in the fourth and three more in the fifth frame to cruise to the 8-0, five-inning conference win.Â
Briannen Holloway (5-1) scattered four hits and struck out four Lions in the complete-game effort for Chestnut Hill.
Angela Lakatos fell to 3-11 in the circle for GCU, permitting five runs (5 ER) on six hits and three walks over 4.2 innings pitched.
GAME TWO (boxscore)The Lions plated their first run of the afternoon in the initial inning of Game Two, when a two-out dropped pop fly brought around
Kelly Hardiman (double) from second base. GCU added three more in the fourth, courtesy of an RBI two-bagger from Lakatos, a run-inducing single by
Brianna LaFiura, and a ribbie triple to right off the bat of
Bryana Smith.
Chestnut Hill made things quite interesting by slimming the deficit to 4-3 with three runs in the fifth, but the Georgian Court offense countered with three of its own in the home half, highlighted by an
Alycia Marsello sacrifice fly and Lakatos RBI single.
Jessica O'Neil improved to 2-9 on the year for the Lions, allowing three runs (1 ER) on eight hits and a free pass, while striking out four over five innings.
Kaitlyn Johnson (5-11) was the pitcher of record for the Griffins (3.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 4 K).
