Herndon, Va.- The Georgian Court University men's lacrosse squad traveled south of the Mason-Dixon line Wednesday afternoon to take on the University of the District of Columbia as the Firebirds extinguished the visiting Lions by a score of 13-8.
CJ Francisco netted the contest's initial tally at 14:39 in the first, providing GCU (1-11) with an early 1-0 advantage. UDC (3-5) proceeded to pour in six unanswered efforts to compile a 6-1 surplus at 14:51 in the second.
Ryder Verdoni and Francisco broke the home team's scoring streak with back-to-back goals just 31 seconds apart to make the score 6-3 at 10:29, but that would be as close as the Lions would get the remainder of the affair.
After slipping in a goal to make the score 7-3 with 1:59 remaining until intermission, The Firebirds would score the first two of the second half to take a commanding 9-3 advantage. GCU would outscore UDC, 5-4, from that point forward, but the decision was already in hand for the home team.
Five Firebirds enjoyed multi-goal efforts, led by
LaRon Hinton's (Jr.-Woodbridge, Va.) hat trick. Francisco (two goals, assist) and
Cory Boyle (two goals) led the charge for the Georgian Court offense.
Pat Payne (Gr.-Catonsville, Md.) earned the win in the UDC net with 19 saves over 60:00.
Jack Wilson slipped to 0-2 for the Lions, collecting 12 saves in the complete-game.
Georgian Court returns to the field on Wednesday, April 20 with a 7:00 p.m. contest at Chestnut Hill College.
