New Haven Sweeps Host-Lions in Non-Conference Softball Doubleheader

Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University softball squad welcomed the University of New Haven to the "Court" Friday morning for a non-conference doubleheader. The visiting Chargers would leave town with a pair of victories, defeating the host Lions by scores of 6-0 and 6-3.

UNH plated two runs in the fourth, three in the fifth, and one more in the sixth to coast to the first game shutout.

Nicole King (Sr.-Front Royal, Va.) permitted just two hits, while striking out 14 Lions (3 BB) over seven frames, in the dominating pitching performance. Kelly Hardiman (0-3) was the pitcher of record for Georgian Court (5.1 IP, 10 H, 6 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 K).

In the nightcap, the two clubs traded runs in the first inning before the Chargers pushed ahead with an additional tally in both the second and third innings. The Lions sliced the deficit to 3-2 with a pair in the bottom of the third, courtesy of two-run single from Hardiman (2-for-3, 3 RBI).

New Haven immediately countered with two runs in the top of the fourth, followed by an insurance mark in the seventh.

Victoria Cabral (Sr.-New Britain, Conn.) went the distance for the Chargers, allowing three runs (1 ER) on four hits and a walk (9 K) in 7.0 innings pitched. Amanda Finn (1-7) suffered the defeat for GCU (5.0 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 3 ER).

The Lions return to conference play with a road trip to Concordia College Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
