Lakewood, N.J.- The Gerorgian Court University softball squad suffered successive shutouts at the hands of visiting Philadelphia University Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Lady Rams by scores of 8-0 (6 innings) and 1-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action.
After three scoreless frames to start the opening contest, Philadelphia (13-29-1, 10-14 CACC) plated three runs in the fourth and five in the sixth to run away with the conference "W".Â
Stephanie Pepper (Fr.-Toms River, N.J.) improved to 5-8 in the circle for the Lady Rams, scattering four GCU hits, while striking out nine, in her six innings of work. Georgian Court's
Angela Lakatos (3-16) permitted three runs (3 ER) on six hits (2 K) in four complete frames.
Bryana Smith (2-for-3, 2B) accounted for half of the Lions' offensive output.
A
Naomi Stas (Fr.-Tuckerton, N.J.) sacrifice foul pop fly brought in
Megan Letos (Jr.-Bristow, Va.) from third in the third inning to register the lone tally of Philadelphia's nightcap blanking of the home team.
Stas (5-7) found good fortune in the circle as well, permitting only two hits and a free pass (10 K) in the complete-game masterpiece. GCU's
Jessica O'Neil (3-11) provided a stellar effort herself, yielding just the one run (1 ER) on five hits and a walk while striking out six in the tough-luck setback.
The 2016 campaign comes to a close this Saturday at noon with a home doubleheader vs. Felician University. The Lions will honor seniors
Meghan Sfraga and
Stephanie Grainger prior first pitch.
