Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University softball squad snapped its five-game slide in emphatic fashion Wednesday afternoon as the Lions blasted visiting Goldey-Beacom College by the scores of 10-2 (6 inn.) and 11-1 (5 inn.) in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) sweep.
The two wins increase GCU's conference mark to 4-8 while the Lightning fall to 2-12 vs. CACC foes (6-22 overall).
GAME ONE (Boxscore)Georgian Court commenced the scoring in the opening contest with two runs in the first frame, courtesy of RBI singles off the bats of
Kelly Hardiman and
Alycia Marsello. Goldey-Beacom managed two tallies of their own in the top of the second sans a base hit to tie the game at 2-all. However, the Lions would go on to plate runs in each of the next four innings, including four in the fourth, to walk off with the win.
Marsello registered GCU's first four-hit effort of the season at the dish, which included a two-bagger and four RBI in the triumph.
Caroline Abin (2-for-3, 3 R, RBI) and
Angela Lakatos (2-for-4, 2 RBI) enjoyed multi-hit perfomances.
Bryana Smith (1-for-4, 2 R) blasted her second long ball of the season leading off the fifth inning.
Lakatos improved to 3-9 in the circle for the the Lions permitting two runs (0 ER) on a lone hit and two walks (2 K). The freshman southpaw hurled 5.1 innings of no-hit ball before a clean single through the left side broke up the bid.
GAME TWO (Boxscore)Five Georgian Court runs in the second, and five more in the fourth, more than assured a second victory on the day for the home team. Marsello completed a monsterous 6-for-7 offensive outburst for the Lions by going 2-for-3 in the nightcap with a towering two-run tater to left in the fourth inning.
Abin (2-for-3, 2 2B, 3 RBI),
Taylor Boltersdorf (2-for-3, 2 R, RBI) and
Brianna LaFiura (2-for-3, 2B, R) also swung mighty sticks for the victors.
Jessica O'Neil (1-9) finally filled the win column on her ledger, allowing one run (1 ER) on six hits and a free pass (5 K) in the five-inning complete game.
The Lions next take the diamond Friday afternoon with a 2:00 p.m. home double-dip vs. Caldwell University.
