New Orleans- The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced its All-Region honorees for the 2016 NCAA Division II outdoor track & field season. The Georgian Court University squad was well-represented on the list as the Lions had seven different student-athletes receive accolades.
Five GCU men and two women secured all-region praise with their accomplishments.
Jessica Handsaker (800 meters) and
Alyssa Whipkey (Javelin) shined for the women while
Michael Brazzel (Javelin),
Peter Collins (Hammer),
Jordan Fagan (High Jump),
Nathan Gill (High Jump), and
Joseph Kaas (Discus, Shot Put) represented the Lions on the men's team.Â
The top five individuals in each event from each region (according to TFRRS data) earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each of the members of the regions' top three relay teams.Â
The 2016 season will conclude May 26-28 at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships held in Bradenton, Florida where Brazzel will represent GCU and compete for a national title in the Javelin.Â
