Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University women's soccer squad secured its second consecutive shutout to start Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) competition in 2016 as the Lions dropped the Lady Rams of Philadelphia University, 2-0, Wednesday afternoon in GCU's home opener on Investors Savings Bank Field.
The victory snaps an 0-2-1 streak vs. Philadelphia (1-2-1, 1-1-1 CACC) and marks the most goals the Lions have netted vs. the foe since defeating the Lady Rams, 4-0, in the 2010 CACC Tournament quarterfinals.
GCU (2-2, 2-0 CACC) cracked the 0-0 stalemate in the 28th minute (27:22) when
Amanda Astudillo netted her second goal in as many games as the junior buried a 1-2 cross from point blank range off the feet of teammates
Morgan Peacock and
Tayler Bramley.
It was Bramley's turn to take center stage on the Lions' second score of the contest. The senior blasted home the rebound of her own initially-saved shot for her first tally of the season on a play that commenced with a well-struck corner kick off the boot of Astudillo.
The Lions finished with a 12-7 shot surplus and 6-2 lead in corner kicks.
Natalie Axelsson demonstrated quality command in the Georgian Court net as the freshman filed away her second straight conference blanking, registering three saves in the process.
Georgian Court now travels to Felician University Saturday for a CACC evening contest, which kicks off at 6:00 p.m.
