Staten Island, N.Y. - The Georgian Court University men's track & field squad made its 2017-18 indoor debut Friday afternoon with an appearance in the Fasttrack Season Opener, hosted at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
DaShawn Lamar-Baldwin and
Kennedy Omari wasted zero time to make their presence known as each etched a new mark in the GCU record book. Lamar-Baldwin eclipsed his previous team-best in the Triple Jump with a 4th-place effort of 13.36 meters. The sophomore initially entered the program annals with a mark of 13.35 meters last season in the East Coast Conference Championships (2/24/17).
Omari established a new high in the Long Jump, bumping off Lamar-Baldwin with a third-place leap of 6.35 meters. His teammate owned the previous best of 6.29 meters, set on 12/9/16 in the Wagner College Shootout.
Nathan Gill achieved the Lions' lone first-place finish of the day with a soaring height of 1.94 meters in the High Jump.
Robert Hill and
Cameron Wardle tied for second with a mark of 1.89 meters in the same event.
Leon White took third overall in the Weight Throw with his launch of 15.63 meters while
Troy Bass chucked a fourth-place heave of 13.00 meters in the Shot Put.Â
On the track, freshman
Michael Williams enjoyed a stellar debut with a third-place finish of 8.86 seconds in the 60m Hurdles, followed by fellow newcomer,
Kraig Ruff, in fifth-place (9.11 seconds).
Jake Thoms took tenth overall with a time of 52.89 seconds in the 400m Dash.
The Lions return to action next Friday in the annual Wagner College Shootout, again at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
