Men's Lacrosse Filibustered by District of Columbia, 18-11

Box Score Lakewood, N.J.- The ominous thunderheads of a balmy 74-degree early March day did not prevent the gentlemen of the Georgian Court University lacrosse team from hosting the Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia. However, the visitors made like carpet-baggers with an 18-11 triumph over the host-Lions.

Georgian Court (1-2) started the scoring early as Ryder Verdoni found the back of the net just 1:22 into the game. The Firebirds (2-1) answered by scoring the next two before Tanner Lee leveled the score at two apiece at the 10:11 mark of the first frame. The first quarter would continue to be a back and forth affair as both teams added two more goals for a 4-4 score with 1:48 left. The second quarter followed a similar format as each side found the back of the net three times with the two teams entering halftime knotted at 7-7.

The second half opened well for the home side as Jake Sherman and Joe Ramirez both scored to give the Lions a two goal advantage (9-7) at 11:01. UDC's LaRon Hinton (Woodbridge, Va.) would cut the Lions' lead in half with his second goal of the game with 10:47 to go in the third quarter. UDC's Alan Singleton (Montreal, Quebec) evened the scoreboard at 9-9 before a 30-minute lightning delay halted action with 8:49 remaining in the third. Upon the resumption of play, Lee's second and third tallies of the game put Georgian Court back on top to end the third quarter with GCU staked to an 11-9 advantage. The Firebirds proceeded to blank the Lions in the fourth quarter, scoring nine unanswered goals to give UDC their largest lead of the game, and the eventual win.

The University of the District of Columbia out-shot the hometown Lions, 48-35. UDC's Nikolas Lund- Murray (New Westminster, B.C.) was credited with the win after making eight saves, while GCU's Austin Greissel (Pompton Plains, N.J.) made 11 saves in the losing effort.

Lee (three goals, one assist) and Brandon Razler tallied hat tricks for the GCU offense. Sherman finished the contest with four points (two goals, two assists) while Verdoni contributed his lone goal and three helpers.

Georgian Court will return to action on Saturday, March 4 as they travel to #16 ranked Pace University to start a three-game road trip. The squad will return home on March 14 when Coach Hover's alma mater, Southern New Hampshire University, comes to Lakewood for a 3:30 p.m. showdown.
