Box Score Colchester, Vt. - The Georgian Court University men's lacrosse team was looking to salvage the final game of its two-game tour through New England as the Lions traveled to Vermont Thursday to take on St. Michael's College. Victory was not to be as GCU's offense was only able to muster five goals in a 20-5 defeat. The game marked the season-opener for the 1-0 Purple Knights.

The start of the game brought optimism as Joe Ramirez opened the scoring at 4:54 in the first quarter, putting the Lions (1-5) ahead, 1-0. St. Michael's would respond by netting two goals to take a 2-1 lead after the initial 15 minutes of action. Georgian Court opened the second quarter on fire as Chris Van Ooteghem and Tanner Lee would give the Lions a 3-2 lead at the 13:20 mark of the second. That would be the last GCU goal for a while as the Purple Knights' defense would not allow another goal for 36 minutes. During that stretch, St. Michael's would find the back of the net 16 times and open up an 18-3 lead before Georgian Court's Ryder Verdoni stopped the run with a goal of his own at 7:07 in the fourth quarter. The Lions would add a Jake Sherman tally at 4:52 of the final session to complete their scoring for the day.

Four Georgian Court goalkeepers would combine to make 17 saves, lead by Austin Greisel's 13 denials. The Purple Knights held a commanding 60-20 advantage in shots in the game, including 37 on frame..

Georgian Court will return home this Tuesday when they host Southern New Hampshire University. The game is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
