Box Score 2 Clermont, Fla. - Coming off the emotional high of its first victory of the season Thursday evening, the Georgian Court University softball squad fell flat Friday afternoon with defeats vs. the University of Bridgeport (9-2) and Northern State University (15-6, 5 inn.).
GAME ONE
Owning a 4-0 lead after five frames, Bridgeport dropped a mighty five-spot on the Lions in the top of the sixth to take a commanding 9-0 advantage. A two-run single off the bat of
Stephanie Torrence in the bottom of the inning prevented an early exit for GCU, but the tallies only delayed the inevitable.
Amanda Staheli (Jr.-Pecatonic, Ill.) registered the complete-game victory for the 5-1 Purple Knights, permitting just the pair of runs (2 ER) on three hits and six walks (3 K).
Marissa Trezza (0-2) was tagged with the loss in her longest pitching outing thus far for GCU (5.1 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 4 ER, 3 BB).
The Lions mustered just three hits in the effort, courtesy of
Lindsey Fischbach,
Molly Jackson, and Torrence.
GAME TWO
In a contest the Lions trailed by a 9-5 margin after just three innings of action, Northern State exploded for six runs in the top of the fifth to take a 10-run lead over GCU as the Wolves coasted to the shortened 15-6 triumph.
Jamie Fisher (So.-Omaha, Neb.) hurled three innings of relief to earn the win in the circle for NSU (3.0 IP, 2H, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, K).
Kelly Hardiman (0-1), the first of four Georgian Court pitchers in the contest, suffered the setback for the Lions (1.0 IP, 4 R, 4 ER, 5 H, K).
The Wolves (12-3) bashed 17 hits in the win, paced by a 4-for-5, six-RBI performance by DP/1B
Katie Dawson (Jr.-Henderson, Nev.).
Samantha Salomon and
Bryana Smith each contributed 2-for-3 efforts at the plate for the 1-9 Lions.
