GAME ONE
A pair of runs in the first inning, followed by two more in the home half of the sixth, provided AIC plenty of cushion as the Yellow Jackets (1-2) secured their first triumph of the 2017 campaign. The Lions plated its lone tally in the top of the sixth, courtesy of a solo Minneola missile to left off the bat of GCU backstop,
Samantha Reilly.
Alyssa Camargo (Sr.-Covina, Calif.) proved victorious in the circle for AIC, yielding just the lone run on four hits and a walk. The senior slinger also struck out five batters.
Jessica O'Neil (1-5) went the distance for the Lions, permitting four runs (2 ER) on seven hits (3 K).
Reilly topped Georgian Court with a 2-for-3 Â offensive offering, which included a double and the sophomore's second long ball of the week.
Kelly Hardiman (1-for-3) and
Cassandra Varvaro (1-for-3) provided the Lions' remaining knocks.
GAME TWO
An eight-run, fifth-inning outburst turned an otherwise close 3-2 affair into an 11-2 blowout as The Rock flattened the Lions to improve to 2-5 on the year. GCU (1-11) owned a 2-1 advantage after the initial inning of action before Slippery Rock took the lead for good with a two-spot in the top of the third.
Georgian Court made matters very difficult for itself as seven fielding blunders by the Lions provided the victors seven unearned runs.
Carly DeRose (Sr.-North Lima, Ohio) garnered the win for Slippery Rock, permitting two runs (1 ER) on four hits and a walk (1 K) in 5.0 innings pitched.
Marissa Trezza drops to 0-3 for GCU after allowing 10 runs (3 ER) on nine hits and a walk (3 K) over four frames.
