Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Philadelphia, Pa.- The Georgian Court University softball squad secured its second doubleheader sweep of the season as the Lions achieved two tidy road wins at Chestnut Hill College Wednesday afternoon, defeating the host-Griffins by the scores of 3-0 and 3-1 to earn two key Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victories.
GAME ONE
An RBI single in the third by
Lindsey Fischbach and a fifth-inning, two-run dinger off the bat of
Kelly Hardiman accounted for all of the GCU scoring as
Jessica O'Neil and the Lions coasted to their first shutout win of the year.Â
O'Neil (3-7) earned the complete-game victory for the victors, permitting just two hits and four passes (5 K) over her seven innings of action.
Briannen Holloway (Sr.-Corona, Calif.) went 5.2 innings in the Chestnut Hill setback (8 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 5 K).
Fischbach (2-for-4),
Samantha Salomon (2-for-4) and
Noel Arellano (2-for-4, 2B) enjoyed multi-hit efforts at the plate for GCU.
GAME TWO
It was Arellano who put the Lions ahead,1-0, in the top of the second frame of the nightcap with a run-inducing double down the right-field line. The Griffins (3-13, 1-3 CACC) responded with the tying tally in the home half of the third, courtesy of a
Corie Apodaca (Sr.-Ontario, Calif.) single.
The score would remain knotted until
Samantha Reilly's third homer of the year, a two-run shot in the sixth, provided the breathing room the Lions needed to seal the sweep.
Taylor Baloga (1-6) earned her first victory wearing the royal and gold as the freshman threw five innings of shutout relief for the win (2 H, 3 K). Holloway (5.1 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 3 K) took the loss for the second straight game.
Reilly peppered Chestnut Hill pitching with a 3-for-3 performance, which included two runs, two RBI, a triple, and a long ball.
The Lions now return home for a double-dip vs. Bloomfield College this Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
