Georgian Court Concedes Defeat to Franklin Pierce University, 14-8

Box Score Rindge, NH- The Georgian Court University men's lacrosse team traveled to the Granite State of New Hampshire Tuesday for a matinee at Franklin Pierce University. Although the Lions played tough, it was not enough to knock off their foe from the Northeast-10 as the home team came away with the 14-8 victory.

Franklin Pierce (2-0) got on the board first just 2:46 into the match as Jake Castorf (So.-Holbrook, N.Y.) weaved his way through the Lions defense for the game's opening goal. Nick Bradshaw (Sr.-Westbury, N.Y.) would double his team's lead a mere 46 seconds later. The Lions leveled the score at 2-2 at the 6:41 mark of the first as Jeffrey Galatola netted two goals in under two minutes, locking the game at 2-2.

Jack Carney (Jr.-Dunbarton, N.H.) would find the net with 4:43 left in the first quarter to give the Ravens a slight 3-2 advantage to end the quarter. The two sides would trade goals to open the second quarter. The home team would open up the lead after scoring a pair before Galatola completed his hat trick, closing the gap to 6-4 with 23 seconds remaining before intermission. With just six ticks left on the clock, Carney would net his fourth goal of the half to give the home side a 7-4 lead going into the break.

Franklin Pierce would begin the second half of play with three unanswered goals until GCU's Joe Ramirez put an end to the Raven's run with 5:05 to go in the third. Ryder Verdoni would follow suit by inching the Lions closer at 10-6 with his fourth tally of the season. FPU came right back with two goals of their own to close out the third frame, doubling up the Lions by the score of 12-6.

GCU, not fazed by the deficit, opened the final quarter with a goal from Jake Sherman. The Ravens would respond with back-to-back goals, making the score 14-7 with 3:33 left. The Lions would add a Hayden Fairhurst tally to complete the scoring with 1:37 to go.

GCU goalkeeper, Austin Geissel, took the loss, making 15 saves on 29  FPU shots. Connor Wacksman (Jr.-Guilderland, N.Y.) was credited with eight saves and the win in the Ravens' net. Franklin Pierce held an overall 47-26 shot advantage over Georgian Court, but the Lions won the face-off battle, 15-9.

Georgian Court will stay up north as they now head to Vermont to challenge St. Michael's College on Thursday afternoon at 3pm.
