Box Score 2 New Castle, Del.- The Georgian Court University softball squad journeyed south to Wilmington University Wednesday afternoon as the Lions suffered a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference sweep, falling to the always-tough Wildcats by the scores of 3-0 and 6-2.
GAME ONEÂ
Three first-inning tallies for the home team proved to be more than enough offense as Wilmington (16-13, 4-6 CACC) breezed to the 3-0 blanking.
Whitney DeMora (Fr.-Lincoln, Del.) brought in the first run for the Wildcats with a ribbie single through the middle. The remaining two runs came courtesy of a
Colby Wyatt (Sr.-Harrington, Del.) sacrifice fly to center and a run-inducing bunt single off the bat of
Meghan Brown (Sr.-Sewell, N.J.).
Caitlyn Whiteside (So.- Bermuda Dunes, Calif.) took care of the rest from within the circle as the Wilmington hurler proceeded to scatter just four hits (1 BB), while striking out four, in the complete-game blanking.Â
Jessica O'Neil (3-9) continues to pitch well for the Lions as the sophomore permitted just the early three runs (3 ER) on nine hits (1 BB) in a complete-game of her own.The GCU ace also struck out three batters in the effort.
GAME TWO
The Wildcats again attacked early in the nightcap, plating two runs in the first frame and three more in the second to take a commanding 5-1 advantage. GCU (6-20, 5-7 CACC) brought around a run in the top of the first and another in the fifth, but never truly threatened the home team in the contest.
Danielle Bradley (Jr.-Delmar, Del.) took home the victory by yielding two runs (2 ER) on six hits and two free passes (7 K). Bradley helped her own cause at the plate as well with a 2-for-4 effort, which included a run and RBI. Georgian Court starting pitcher,
Marissa Trezza (1-5), faced five batters in the second without the benefit of an out as the freshman suffered the defeat (1.0 IP, 5 R, 2 ER, 5 H).
Kelly Hardiman (1-for-3) contributed an RBI double for GCU in the first inning while
Cassandra Varvaro brought around the Lions' second score with a single in the fifth frame.
The Lions return home Saturday morning for an 11:00 a.m. CACC twin-bill vs. Nyack College.Â
