Staten Island, N.Y. - The Georgian Court University men's & women's track & field squad returned from its nearly month-long holiday hiatus Friday with an appearance in the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartan Invite, hosted by the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
Jessica Handsaker enjoyed a quality start to 2018 on the track as she registered a nifty time of 2:17.38 in the 800-meter run. The senior speedster also joined teammates
Francesca Dee,
Julia Watts and
Kaylie Wessberg to post a mark of 4:14.38 in the 4 X 400 relay.
Over in the field events,
Sarah Zollner soared to a height of 3.05 meters in the Pole Vault.
Stephanie Bock shined in both the Shot Put and Weight Throw with heaves of 12.10 meters and 13.68 meters, respectively.
On the men's front,
Kennedy Omari rewrote the team mark for the Triple Jump with a record-leap of 13.50 meters, erasing the previous-high of 13.36, originally established by teammateÂ
DaShawn Lamar-Baldwin back on December 1 in the Fasttrack Season Opener. Omari also posted a distance of 5.84 meters in the Long Jump.
Hussein Elmeshad shined on the track for the Lions with a time of 9:23.42 in the 3,000-meter run.
Georgian Court returns to competition this Friday with a return visit to the Ocean Breeze Complex, this time for the NYC Gotham Cup (2:00 p.m.).
