Lehigh's John Covert Classic Chock Full of Georgian Court Highlights as Lions Shine

Bethlehem, Pa.- The Georgian Court University men's & women's track & field squad provided performances loaded with personal bests as the Lions shined in Saturday's John Covert Classic, hosted by Lehigh University.

There was plenty to celebrate on the women's side, highlighted by a new team record in the 500m Run by Jessica Handsaker. The Aussie senior erased the previous mark of 1:19.73 (Francesca Dee, 2/26/16) with a new time of 1;18.96. Also on the track, Peggy Rosario posted a new personal best for the third straight week in the 60m Dash, this time with a finish of 8.35 seconds.

Lyric Green set new heights in the Triple Jump with a new season-high distance of 10.89 meters. Amy Bruno blew away her previous personal-best by almost three feet in the Shot Put as the sophomore slinger launched a throw of 12.93 meters. Michelle Almeida, at 12.33 meters, bested her top distance by almost two feet.

In men's action, Devin Martin showed off his skills both on the track and in field competition. The sophomore sprinted for a time of 8.76 seconds in the 60-meter High Hurdles, moving him into second overall in the East Coast Conference. Martin also added a new personal record in the Triple Jump with a leap of 13.47 meters.

Teammate DaShawn Lamar-Baldwin also made noise in the Triple Jump with his new best of 13.45 meters. Troy Bass made a splash in the Weight Throw with a personal record of 13.86 meters while Cameron Wardle made strides in the Long Jump with a distance of 6.46 meters.

Other season-bests were provided by Evan Boyce, who scaled new heights in the Pole Vault (4.20m), and Patrick Parr, who moved into first-place in the ECC with a time of 16:09.83 in the 5,000m Run.

GCU returns to the Keystone State next Saturday with an appearance at the East Stroudsburg University DeSchriver Invitational.
