Pomona, N.J. - The Georgian Court University gentlemen enjoyed a strong start to their 2018 outdoor track & field calendar as the Lions placed second overall (out of 15) at Saturday's Stockton University Invitational.
Devin Martin collected GCU's lone first-place finish on the track as the sophomore sprinted to the top spot in the 110m Hurdles with a time of 15.92 seconds. In the 5,000m Run,
Hussein Elmeshad raced to a second-place time of 15:44.92, followed by
Patrick Parr in fifth place (15:56.48). In the 800m Run, freshman
Daniel Claudeo enjoyed a 4th-place time of 2:00.73.
Jake Thoms contributed points with a seventh-place showing in the 400m Hurdles at 59.36 seconds.
The Georgian Court quartet of Claudeo, Thoms,
DeShawn Lamar-Baldwin and
Kennedy Omari collaborated for a third-place time of 3:32.85 in the 4 X 400 relay.
In field action,
Alaa Al-Shrouf highlighted the competition with a first-place toss of 14.60m in the Shot Put.
Troy Bass followed in sixth with an effort of 13.50m.
Leon White served as GCU's top finisher in both the Discus and Hammer Throw with marks of 43.04m (3rd-place) and 45.26 (4th), respectively. Al-Shrouf took fifth in the Discus (41.03m) and seventh in the Hammer Throw (41.49m) while Bass finished sixth in the Discus (38.88m) and seventh in the Hammer (39.99m).
On the jump front, Martin nailed a third-place Triple Jump distance of 13.16m while
Cameron Wardle also took third overall in the High Jump at 1.92m. Omari finished fifth in the Long Jump at 6.23m, followed by Wardle, who tied for seventh in the event at 6.11m.
Kyle Muir, making his Georgian Court spring debut, placed seventh in the Javelin with a toss of 49.25m.
The Lions will return to the track next Saturday with an appearance in the West Chester University Bill Butler Invitational.
