Elmeshad Wins 1,500m, Helps Break 4 X 800 Team Record in Saturday's Rider University Invite

Lawrenceville, N.J. - Hussein Elmeshad enjoyed a day as stellar as the weather Saturday as the sophomore placed first overall in the 1,500m Run, while playing a key role in the breaking of the program record for the 4 X 800 relay, as the Georgian Court University men's track & field squad shined in the 2018 Rider University Invitational.

With a time of 4:05.24, Elmeshad topped a field made up of mostly Division I entries. The Leonia, N.J. native then joined teammates Daniel Claudeo, Patrick Parr and Jason Rodriguez for a time of 8:29.90 in the 4 X 800, erasing the previous mark of 8:30.78 (5/8/15, GCU Last Chance Meet).

Claudeo posted a 10th-place finish in the 800m Run (2:01.98) in his other track action while Kraig Ruff took sixth overall in both the 110m Hurdles (16.58 seconds) and the 400m Hurdles (59.38). Jake Thoms followed just behind in the latter event, posting a seventh-place mark of 59.38 seconds.

In field competition, Cameron Wardle established a new personal-best in the High Jump with a second-place height of 1.94 meters while also taking eighth in the Long Jump at 6.15 meters. Robert Hill nailed a seventh-place effort of 1.79 meters in the High Jump.

Kyle Muir made a name for himself as the freshman launched a Javelin throw of 51.94 meters, earning him a third-place finish. 

Leon White took second in the Discus at 43.66 meters, followed by Troy Bass (41.72) and Alaa Al-Shrouf (40.82) in fourth and fifth place, respectively. Al-Shoruf also performed nicely in the Hammer Throw with a fourth-place distance of 42.56 meters, and in the Shot Put at 13.78m (5th-place). 

Bass posted a hurl of 39.40 meters (6th-place) in the Hammer.

The Lions return to action this Wednesday with an appearance in the Shippensburg University Invite.
