Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University women continued their dominance of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Sunday as the Lions extended their incredible streak of outdoor titles to five with a first-place finish in the 2018 CACC Outdoor Championship Meet.
The GCU women compiled 211 total points to earn their fifth straight banner as the Lions held off second-place Bloomfield College by 15 points (196).
Highlighting the women's ledger was
Jessica Handsaker, who posted a first-place finish in the 800m Run (2:20.83) for the second straight season.
Sarah Zollner topped all entries in the Pole Vault, clearing a height of 3.03 meters. It was sweet music for
Lyric Green as the sophomore soared to a first-place finish in the Triple Jump (11.29m).
Georgian Court secured a trio of first-place efforts in the throwing events as
Stephanie Bock (12.27m),
Noel Hartman (37.99m), and
Samantha Smith (48.48m) nailed the top spot in the Shot Put, Javelin, and Hammer Throw, respectively.
On the men's side, the GCU gentlemen, looking for their fourth straight championship, fell just short this time out as the Lions placed second overall to Bloomfield College. The Bears collected 196.5 total points, a mere four points ahead of Georgian Court (192.5).
Devin Martin etched his name in the Georgian Court annals with two new team records. The sophomore authored a new program-best in the 110m Hurdles with his second-place time of 15.34 seconds while grabbing first-place with a record-grabbing leap of 13.94m in the Triple Jump.
Hussein Elmeshad outlasted all-comers in the 5,000m Run with his impressive first-place time of 15:41.31.
Evan Boyce buried the competition in the Pole Vault by clearing a height of 3.93m.
Leon White fired a distance of 44.72m in the Discus, the second year in a row the sophomore has won the conference crown in that event.
Troy Bass bashed the competition in the Hammer Throw with a fling of 43.37m while
Kyle Muir (52.36m) took first-place in the Javelin as a freshman.
