Louisville, Ky. -Fresh off a debut collegiate season for the ages, the efforts of Georgian Court University's
Alyssa Herrera have not gone unnoticed as the first-year Lion secured a spot on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's Division II All-American First Team, announced Tuesday.
It marks the program's first All-American bid since 2018 when Samantha Reilly landed a place on the NFCA First Team as the junior slugger clubbed a program-record 25 home runs that year.
Also a 2021 Schutt Sports / NFCA Division II Player of the Year & Freshman of the Year finalist, the Georgian Court Female Rookie of the Year led the Lions in numerous offensive categories, including: batting average (.450), runs (47), hits (59), doubles (17) and total bases (94). Having played a vital role in leading GCU to within one win of its first-ever appearance in the 2021 NCAA Division II Softball Championship, the La Palma, Calif. native owned 18 multi-hit contests in 44 overall games, and collected at least one knock in all but eight outings.
The NFCA All-America teams are voted on by the Association's All-America Committees. In Division II, the committee is comprised of one member head coach from each of the NCAA's eight regions. All student-athletes that were voted to the first- and second-team All-Region teams were eligible for All-America consideration. Fifty-four student-athletes from 43 different institutions have been voted to one of three 2021 NFCA Division II All-America teams.
