Lakewood, N.J. - Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Commissioner,
Dan Mara, announced this morning that the remainder of the 2022 CACC Softball Championship Tournament (hosted by Georgian Court University) has been canceled due to the copious amount of rain that befell Ocean County, N.J., and the subsequent unplayable field conditions.
As a result, Georgian Court is (albeit in anticlimactic fashion) the 2022 softball tournament champion and receives the CACC's automatic qualifier for this coming week's NCAA Division II Championship East Regional Tournament. The Lions, declared champs thanks to a perfect 3-0 record over the first two days of the event, earn back-to-back conference tournament titles for the first time since winning in both 2001 and 2002.
GCU (38-13), winners of 10-straight contests, collected victories over #8 Holy Family University (5-1), #5 University of the Sciences (13-0, 5 inn.), and #2 Wilmington University (6-4) to secure the crown.
Alyssa Herrera, with two home runs in Friday's victory over Wilmington, earned Tournament MVP honors. Teammates
Mikayla Gilgert,
Kiara Meikle,
Alyssa Rue,
Adriana Mungo, and
Taylor Barraza also earned All-Tournament Team acclaim.
The Lions, currently ranked #2 in the latest NCAA Division East Regional rankings, will learn its fate for the next round on Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. EDT. Watch the NCAA Division II Softball Selection Show LIVE at at that time by

Georgian Court makes its team-record third-straight visit to the regional round. The Lions, for the second time in program history (2009) came within one victory of the 2021 NCAA Division II National Championships falling to Saint Anselm College, 4-0, last May 22 in Manchester, N.H.
