Lions Have Strong Showing at Ramapo Opener

NEW YORK CITY, (Jan. 20, 2023) - Georgian Court Track and Field was back in action for the second time in six days at the Armory in New York City. The Lions put up another strong performance seeing event winners and personal-records throughout the meet.

Distance
• The meet started with the 5,000m race. Georgian Court graduate student Alec Valle ran with the leaders and finished sixth overall in 15:42.56. That time is second all-time at Georgian Court, just two seconds behind the school record. It's also the tops in the ECC and lowers his time by 32 seconds from his season opener in December.
• Valle wasn't the only Lion to set personal-bests. Riley Keffer improved upon his mile time running 4:33.01, good for 12th place. Dylan Navarro also ran a PR, 4:45.38.
• Xavier Seals finished in the top-five, placing third in the 800m with a time of 1:55.89.
• Sean Donnamaria made the GCU top-10 list for the second time in two weeks. He ran the 600m in 1:26.63 which placed 10th and is fifth all-time for the Lions.
• For the women, Brenna Sullivan lowered her mile time by more than seven seconds running 6:02.97 for 19th place.
• Amirah Beasley and Niya Barden finished fourth and fifth in the 600m run and each ran their way into the GCU top-10. Beasley's 1:44.71 moves her to fifth all-time and Barden climbed to eighth running 1:47.49.

Sprints/Hurdles/Relays
• Two Lions made the finals of the 60m hurdles. Shalom Adzakro finished in second in the final round running 9.38. Jan Volkmar was the last to qualify for the finals, but moved up to fourth place running a personal-best 8.62.
• Yanely Bohorquez-Gonzalez just missed the top-10 finished 11th in the 60m dash running 8.24. Noah Roach ran 7.15 for the men to place 13th.
• Those two also led the Lions in the 200m dash. Bohorquez-Gonzalez was 13th running 27.62. Roach was 15th crossing the line in 23.24.
• Domenico Darcy was the only Lion to run the 400m dash. He finished 15th in 52.87.

Jumps
• Georgian Court had three event winners in the jumps. Jan Volkmar flew past the field in the pole vault. He cleared 14-11 for the win.
• Jeshurun Devero picked up his second win of the season in the triple jump. His best of 47-8 won the competition, but all five of his legal jumps would have been enough to win the event.
• The final event winner was Aniyah Russell in the long jump. It's also her second win of the season in the event. Her jump of 19-1.5 on her third attempt moved her into first place and that was enough to win.
• The Lions put three in the top-six of the women's triple jump. Shanae Rayside finished second jumping 37-4. Jaison-Ashley Pleva set a big personal-best jumping 37-0.5 to finish third. Russell came back following the long jump to place sixth with a mark of 35-11.25, her first time this season jumping the triple.
• Dylan Breen finished in 10th place in the men's long jump. His final attempt of 20-9.75 was his only legal mark.
• Nina Casalino got her first legal mark in a college meet in the pole vault. She cleared 9-0.25 and tied for third place.
• Tiffany Parajon cleared the first bar in the high jump, 4-9 on her first attempt. That clearance placed her in a tie for 11th overall.

Throws
• Elena Keck set an indoor personal-best in the shot put. She threw 36-2.25 to finish sixth overall. It was her first throw of the finals and her first time over 11 meters indoors.
• Robbie Babson got off just one legal throw in the shot put but made it count. His second throw traveled 48-8 which was still good for second place. Babson also placed 12th in the weight throw with a mark of 41-9.75.

Next weekend the Lions will remain in state when they travel to Monmouth for the Monmouth Winter Classic, January 28-29.
