NEW ORLEANS (Oct. 25, 2023) - Georgian Court Cross Country had a second place finish at last weekend's CACC Conference Championship. The Lions actually had a lower score than in 2022 when they won they meet, putting five runners in the top-20.
Next up for Georgian Court is the NCAA East Region Championship. That will be held Saturday, Nov. 4 in Rindge, NH. Heading into the meet, it looks like the Lions will be one of the top-10 teams in the region. In the final United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings, the Lions have moved up to eighth.
Regional Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning teams' strength with current season results (if applicable) in determining a rank-order of squad potential.
This is the third time this season and second straight week the Lions have been ranked. They were 10th each of the first two times.
The Lions are in the East Region along with teams in the CACC, Northeast-10 and ECC conferences. Wilmington is the only other CACC team in the rankings, moving up to fourth this week. Southern Connecticut is atop the rankings followed by Roberts Wesleyan and Daemen. Franklin Pierce, Adelphi and Bentley are all ahead of the Lions while Assumption and Mercy rank ninth and 10th.
The top-three teams at the regional championship all qualify for the national meet. Along with the top-three teams, a select number of individuals not a part of a qualifying team also make the meet.
