Lions Lacrosse Host Mercy In 2023 Home Opener

LAKEWOOD, NJ (Feb. 21, 2023) - Georgian Court men's lacrosse starts a string of four straight home games beginning tomorrow afternoon for their 2023 home debut.

Previously vs. Mercy
• These two teams met a year ago in Dobbs Ferry, NY.
• The then fifth-ranked Mavericks defeated GCU 21-5.
• Mercy came out of the gates hot scoring 15 of their 21 goals before the half.
• Tallen Smith scored twice for the Lions

Last Time Out
• The 2023 season started out last Saturday in Waltham, Mass. with the Lions taking on No. 16 Bentley.
• Georgian Court took a 3-2 lead late in the first quarter as Justin Iannarone, Michael Ventresca and Tallen Smith all picked up goals.
• Bentley though went on to score 11 straight goals while the Lions only up one more in the 19-4 loss to the Falcons.
• Tallen Smith scored twice including once a man-up.
• Michael Ventresca scored and had a team-high seven shots. 
• Justin Iannarone scored and was 8-21 on the draw with seven ground balls.
• Daniel Burnham added an assist.
• Vincent Guinta, Joe Murphy, TJ Parrett and Brett Bridges all scooped three ground balls. 
• Vincent Burkhart made 15 saves in net.

Individual Milestones
• Nine points will get Michael Ventresca to 100.
• With three points James Sanford will get to 25. 
• Two more ground balls will get Daniel Burnham to 100. He can also move into the GCU all-time top three in goals scored with two more.
• One more assist and Tallen Smith will become the eighth Lion to ever record 30 in a career. 
• With one more point, Michael Ventresca will enter the GCU top-five all-time. 
• With 15 more face-off wins, Justin Iannarone will become the second Lion to ever win 300 in a career.

No. 6 Mercy Mavericks

• Mercy is off to a 2-1 start to the season. 
• The Mavericks have scored 20+ goals in each of their wins.
• Mercy opened the season with a 23-1 win at CACC foe Dominican.
• In a top-10 battle last Sunday, Mercy fell at Le Moyne 10-8. 
• Two Mavericks have already scored double-figure goals this season. Brady Kearnan leads the team with 12 and 21 points.
