Lions Look to Stay Hot as CACC Play Rolls On

LAKEWOOD, NJ (March 20, 2023) - Winners of five straight, Georgian Court Softball returns home to take on CACC preseason favorites.

Previously vs. Wilmington
• Last season Georgian Court was just 1-4 against Wilmington. They lost both ends of a doubleheader during the regular season on the road. They picked up their only win in the CACC Tournament which led them to claiming the title. 
• Wilmington got their revenge in the East Regional going 2-0 against the Lions and ending their season.
• In GCU's final game of the year, they lost 4-1. The Lions got on the board first with Jayda Jones breaking a scoreless tie in the fourth with a double to center.
• Wilmington answered with a run in the home-half of the fourth to tie, then plated three in the sixth for the 4-1 win.
• Georgian Court knocked just two hits all game long with Jones and Brittany Gable each collecting one. 
• The all-time series between the two teams is tied at 27. 

Last Time Out
• Georgian Court's offense erupted in a doubleheader sweep of Millersville.
• The Lions won 15-4 and then 9-3.
Kaitlyn Stufft led GCU with three home runs in game one.
• The Lions totaled seven home runs in the doubleheader. 

Who's Hot?
• After a mild start to the season, Kaitlyn Stufft has picked it up of late going 7-13 in her last four games with three home runs and eight RBI.
Savannah Simons has six RBI in her last two games.
Alyssa Herrera has two hits in each of her last three games with five RBI.
Jayda Jones has driven in eight runs in her last three games with four doubles.
• Even though she missed the Millersville doubleheader, Taylor Lipkins is still riding a 12-game hitting streak. 
Janelle Blaszka has given up just one run in her last 10 innings pitched with eight strikeouts. 

Individual Milestones
• With two games played, Kaitlyn Stufft will reach 100. She also needs five hits for 100 and one home run for 25. 
• One more at bat will get Taylor Barraza to 300. 
• Jadalynn Rodriguez is one stolen base away from 30. 
• Five more hits will get Adriana Mungo to 150 and she's six RBI away from 100.
Jayda Jones needs six more at bats to reach 200. 
• Brittany Gable will get to 25 hits with three more. 
• Haley Korsak needs to throw 1.1 innings to get to 50.

Lions in the CACC (statistic minimums set by NCAA)
• Within the conference, Georgian Court has one of the most potent offenses. They rank in the top-five in nearly every offensive category.
• GCU leads the league in home runs per game and have also taken over the top spot in slugging percentage at .495. 
• The Lions baserunning has played a big part in their success. They are second in the CACC and 30th in the country in stolen bases with 53. They also rank 16th in the nation in with 11 sacrifice flies.
• Individually, Adriana Mungo leads the CACC with 26 RBI, five triples, and a .712 slugging percentage.  
• Taylor Lipkins 20 stolen bases are tops in the CACC.
• With a 1.57 ERA, Maddie Rabe is third in the CACC. 
Jadalynn Rodriguez ranks sixth in the CACC with a .435 batting average. 

About the Opponents
Wilmington Wildcats

• Wilmington was picked to finish first in the CACC in the preseason coaches poll.
• They've gotten off to a strong start with a 12-6 record and are unbeaten at 4-0 in conference play.
• The Wildcats are 14th in Division II with a .348 team batting average led by Jessica Reed at .488.
• Kylie Gunkle is the ace of the staff with a 1.47 ERA allowing just 4.55 hits per seven innings.
• In the field, Wilmington is tops in the CACC with .959 fielding percentage.
• The Wildcats are not a powerful bunch with just two home runs all season. Both of those are from Sara Miller who also leads the team with 19 RBI.
• In addition to Gunkle, Delani Sheehan has pitched 42.2 innings this season with a 3.77 ERA and team-best 4.76 strikeouts per seven innings.
