Lions Track Begins Outdoor Season at Monmouth

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ (March 26, 2023) - The 2023 Outdoor Track and Field Season is officially here. With rain moving most of the weekend's events at the Monmouth Season Opener to Sunday, Georgian Court finally kicked off the season. 

Sprints/Hurdles/Relays
Noah Roach led the GCU sprinters. He finished eighth overall in the 100m running 11.06, not far off from his personal-best. He then took 21st in the 200m running 22.39.
Terrell Moore and Domenico Darcy finished near each other in the 400m. Moore was 25th overall in 52.35 and Darcy 27th in 52.78.
• Michel-Jean Henry was the only hurdler for the Lion men. He ran the 110m hurdles in 16.48 to finish 21st. 
• For the GCU women, Shalom Adzakro had a top-10 finish in the 100m hurdles. She ran 15.39 which placed her 10th and is tied for sixth all-time at GCU. Julia Kirschnick was 14th running a personal-best 16.12. 
Yanely Bohorquez-Gonzalez ran the 100m in 13.34 which put her 31st overall. Samantha Lonseth was 45th running 14.43.
• For the quarter mile Aliyah Thorpe placed 24th running 1:03.54. Molly Burns was 31st running 1:07.23. 

Distance
• For 800m Dylan Navarro was the Lions top finisher in 24th place running 2:03.82, just shy of his outdoor personal-best.
Thomas Rosky and Joseph Jamolawicz finished back-to-back in 50th and 51st place. Rosky ran 2:15.33 and Jamolawicz 2:17.29.
Kyle Spector came back after missing the entire indoor season. He opened outdoors with the 5,000m running 16:33.94 for 44th place.
Will Spector competed in the 3,000m Steeplechase and was fifth in 10:32.22 which is fourth all-time at GCU. 
• The Lion women had just three competing in distance races. Niya Barden was 29th in the 800m running 2:32.49. Selma Cazimoska was 50th in 2:56.20.
Amirah Beasley was the only Lion in the 1500m She ran 5:31.56 for 55th place. 

Jumps
Dylan Breen had a pair of top-10 finishes in the horizontal jumps. He won the triple jump with a personal-best 44-0.75 which is fifth all-time at GCU. He was also seventh in the long jump with a mark of 21-2.5.
Julia Kirschnick made her way onto the GCU top-10 in the triple jump. She placed 13th with a mark of 33-05.75 which is 10th all-time for the Lions. 
• Two Lions had top-20 finishes in the long jump. Malama Toure finished 13th jumping 16-6 and Shalom Adzakro was 16th at 16-4.5.
Elena Martinez-Rodriguez was 29th jumping 14-11.5 and Ingrid Zuniga-Rivera 31st at 14-5.
• Kirschnick also competed in the pole vault where she finished 10th jumping 10-00.
Nina Casalino had a personal-best 9-6.25 which is tied for fifth all-time at GCU.

Throws
Elena Keck set two personal-bests in the throws. She had a big one Sunday throwing the shot put 39-4.5 which was good for sixth overall and ninth all-time at Georgian Court.
• Ingrid Zuniga-Rivera also hit a PR in the shot put throwing 31-9.5. 
• On Friday, Keck threw a PR in the discus finishing 17th throwing 113-11. She was also 11th in the hammer throw at 138-10.
Sheridan Martinez competed in three throws events. She was 3rd overall in the javelin throwing 134-6, fifth all-time for the Lions in her first ever outdoor collegiate meet.
• Martinez also took 21st in the discus at 109-4 and 25th in the hammer throw at 112-3. 
Julia Kirschnick threw the javelin for the first time and was 20th throwing 84-3.
Robbie Babson set a personal-best in the hammer throw Friday night. He was 14th throwing 148-10 which moves him to fifth in Lions history.
• Babson was also sixth in the shot put Sunday throwing 51-0.
Joseph Sauchelli just missed the top-10 in the javelin finishing 11th with his throw of 171-10.
Jan Volkmar took 23rd in the shot put with his mark of 40-9 and was 15th in the javelin at 161-2.

Next week GCU will split seeing part of the team compete at High Point in North Carolina and another part at the Ramapo College Invitational. Those are both next weekend, Friday-Saturday, March 31-April 1.
