NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 18, 2026) - The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) released their 2026 year-end Outdoor Track and Field Awards. As expected with GCU winning the conference championship on the men's and women's side, the Lions took home plenty of major awards.
Three student-athletes,
Daizhae' Brown,
Mark Linton and
Shona Mutokuto won awards, along with Coach Mike Murawski. Each team also earned one team award.Â
Brown actually earned two awards as the Female Field Athlete and Rookie of the Year. She helped Georgian Court scoring 38 points at the CACC Championships. In the field events, Brown won the long jump and the triple jump and also placed fifth in the high jump. She jumped 18-10.5 in the long jump, and 34-2.75 in the triple to win the competitions. She also cleared 4-11.75 in the high jump. On the track, Brown also finished second in the 100m and helped GCU to a third-place finish in the 4x100m relay. She was named an All-East Region performer in the long jump, sitting third in the region. She had the best marks in the CACC this season in both the long and triple jump.
Linton earned the Male Field Athlete of the Year award. He scored 26 points in three events at the conference meet, finishing no lower than second in three throwing events. Linton was the CACC Champion in the hammer throw throwing 173-11. He finished second in the discus at 164-11 and the shot put at 51-5. Regionally, Linton made the All-East Region squad in all three events as well. He leads the region with an NCAA qualifying throw, is second in the hammer throw and fourth in the shot put.Â
Mutokuto was named the Male Field Rookie of the Year. The triple jumper took third place at the conference championship meet with his just of 45-7.75. Mutokuto has shown a penchant early in his career of big jumps in big moments. His two best marks of the season came at both the indoor and outdoor championship meet. Mutokuto ranks 10th in the region in the triple jump and fourth in the conference but is the top freshman in the league. He was one of just three freshmen to make the award stand at the CACC Championships in a field event.
Coach Murawski was named both the Men's and Women's CACC Athletic Solutions Coach of the Year. He helped guide both teams to their first CACC Championships since the 2021-22 season. For the women it was their ninth conference championship and the men their seventh. The Lions had an outstanding showing at the meet, finishing with nine event winners, five men and four women. They also had 21 on the All-Conference team with either a first or second place finish, and a league-high 12 All-Region awards coming from eight different student-athletes.Â
As successful as the Lions were on the track and in their field events, they were just as generous off of it. Not only did the Lions earn the championship trophy, but both the men's and women's teams were awarded the Team Sportsmanship award for displaying class and character throughout the outdoor season.
