Double-Dip For Lions Softball This Week

LAKEWOOD, NJ (April 11, 2023) - It's a big week for Georgian Court Softball with four total doubleheaders, two during the week and two this weekend.

Bridgeport Purple Knights (19-16, 9-5 CACC)
Felician Golden Falcons 23-12 (11-3 CACC)

• Both doubleheaders are available to watch via a free-to-view broadcast on the Georgian portal of the CACC Digital Network powered by HUDL. Live stats are also available at gculions.com. 

Previously vs. Bridgeport
• All-time Georgian Court is 8-6 against the Purple Knight's.
• This is the first season with Bridgeport as a member of the CACC.
• The two teams met twice last season, once in the season opener and again in the East Region Tournament.
• The Lions were 2-0 allowing just one run combined. 
• To start the season, Mikayla Gilgert tossed a no-hitter against the Purple Knights striking out seven.
• Georgian Court's first East Region opponent was Bridgeport. GCU won 2-1 as a two-run Kaitlyn Stufft home run in the first inning held up. Gilgert again shut down the Purple Knights allowing a run on five hits.

Previously vs. Felician
• This will meet game number 50 in this rivalry with GCU leading the series 40-9. 
• Last season, neither game made it past five innings with the Lions winning 10-2 and 13-5.
• The Lions led game one 3-2 before scoring seven unanswered. An error in the fifth ended the game due to the run-rule. 
• Another game that the Lions pulled away late. They scored at least four runs in three separate innings.
• Adriana MungoKaitlyn Stufft, Taylor Barazza, and Alyssa Rue all went deep in the win. 

Last Time Out
• Before the Easter break, Georgian Court split a doubleheader with Post.
• The Lions rallied in game one, but lost 11-10 on a walk-off.
• In game two, the Lions scored three in the seventh to break a 2-2 tie and went on to win 5-2. Taylor Lipkins had the game-winning RBI.
Sam Hildebrant earned the win allowing two runs in seven innings.

Who's Hot?
Sam Hildebrant hasn't allowed more than two earned runs in any of her last five appearances.
• Kaitlyn Stufft has a nine game hitting streak with six extra-base hits during that stretch. 
• Jadalynn Rodriguez has scored a run in three straight games. 
Savannah Simons has an RBI in four of her last five games and eight total during that stretch.
Taylor Lipkins has 10 hits in her last 19 at bats with nine runs scored.

Individual Milestones
Taylor Lipkins is one stolen base away from becoming the sixth Lion to ever steal 50 career bases.
Alyssa Herrera is 13 at bats away from 400 and Jadalynn Rodriguez is 14 away from 200.
Kaitlyn Stufft needs three home runs to get to 30. Something only six other Lions have done.
• With five more at bats Savannah Simons will hit 100.
Brittany Gable is one hit and one run away from 30.
Adriana Mungo will score her 100th run with four more.

Lions in the CACC (statistic minimums set by NCAA)
• Within the conference, Georgian Court has one of the most potent offenses. They rank in the top-five in nearly every offensive category.
• GCU leads the league in home runs with 21 and slugging percentage at .496. 
• The Lions baserunning has played a big part in their success. They are second in the CACC in stolen bases per game with 2.26. They also rank fifth in the nation in with 19 sacrifice flies.
• Individually, Adriana Mungo leads the CACC with 39 RBI.
• Taylor Lipkins 32 stolen bases are the most in the CACC and 10th in D2. She's yet to be caught this season.
• With a 1.90 ERA, Maddie Rabe is fifth in the CACC. 
• Jadalynn Rodriguez ranks seventh in the CACC with a .418 batting average. 
• Jayda Jones' 11 doubles are sixth  in the conference. 
• Kaitlyn Stufft leads all of Division II with six sacrifice flies. She's also third with 34 RBI.

About the Opponents
Bridgeport Purple Knights
• In their first season in the CACC Bridgeport is off to a 9-5 start. They've won two straight but are just 4-4 on the road.
• As a team, Bridgeport is reaching base at a .407 clip, second-best in the CACC. That's due in part to their 130 walks.
• Sitting between Mungo and Stufft for RBI is Mya Jones with 36. She has a team-best 42 hits and is slugging .606 as well.
• Vise Zarate has been their ace. She's pitched in 23-of-35 games with 17 starts and is 12-6 with a 2.96 ERA.
• Bridgeport has allowed just 27 stolen bases all year while swiping 60 themselves.
• In the field, the Purple Knights are near the top of the CACC with a .954 fielding percentage.

Felician Golden Falcons
• Felician is off to plenty of early-season success. 
• They are 23-12 with an 11-3 mark in the CACC.
• The Golden Falcons were just 10-14 last year in conference and missed the CACC Tournament.
• Felician is leading the league with a .409 on base percentage. They are also second in GCU slugging .486.
• No team in the country is hitting more two-baggers than Felician with 2.31 per game.
• Vienna Chierchia leads the CACC and is fourth in the country with 16 doubles.
• Alexis Velotta is hitting .429 with a team-high 54 hits and six home runs.
• Freshman Riley Williams anchors the staff with 111.2 innings pitched. She's 12-6 with a 3.82 ERA and 70 strikeouts.
