Two More Doubleheaders On Deck For Lions Softball

LAKEWOOD, NJ (April 14, 2023) - Fresh off of two doubleheaders the last two days, Georgian Court Softball gets a day off today before taking the field for two more doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday.

Previously vs. Caldwell
• There aren't many teams Georgian Court has a losing record against but Caldwell is one of them. All-time GCU is 33-39 against the Cougars. 
• These two teams split last season. Caldwell took the opener 2-1 before the Lions roared back with a 10-2, six-inning win in game two.
Mikayla Gilgert was the hard-luck loser in game one. Both of Caldwell's runs were scored on sacrifice flies.
• The Lions run came on a home run from Taylor Lipkins, the only one thus far in her career. 
• Game two saw the Lions break a 2-2 tie by scoring the final eight runs of the game. GCU scored at least a run in all six innings.
Kaitlyn Stufft homered twice and drove in five. 

Previously vs. Jefferson
• All-time against Jefferson Georgian Court is 31-11.
• A year ago GCU swept the Rams 8-0 and 7-4.
• The Lions hit three home runs in game one, one apiece from Taylor Barraza, Brittany Gable and Alyssa Herrera.
Mikayla Gilgert allowed two hits in the shutout win.
• GCU hit four home runs in game two including two in the sixth from Herrera and Jadalynn Rodriguez to put the game out of reach. 

Last Time Out
• Georgian Court had a strong showing against Felician sweeping a doubleheader from the Golden Falcons.
• GCU took the first game 9-1 in six innings and won the second 7-4.
Maddie Rabe was brilliant in game one allowing just an unearned run on three hits.
Jayda Jones was not retired in either game going 6-6 with a walk, hit-by-pitch and five RBI. 

Who's Hot?
Jayda Jones has at least two hits in seven straight games. She's hitting .667 over that stretch with 13 runs batted in. 
• Sam Hildebrant hasn't allowed more than two earned runs in any of her last six appearances. She tossed 5.1 innings in game two against Felician allowing just a run on five hits. 
• Kaitlyn Stufft has a 13 game hitting streak, the longest for a Lion this season. 
• Taylor Lipkins has 16 hits in her last 34 at bats with 14 runs scored and at least one in nine straight games. 

Individual Milestones
• Taylor Lipkins is three stolen bases away from entering the GCU all-time top-five. 
• Alyssa Herrera is 13 at bats away from 400.
• Kaitlyn Stufft needs three home runs to get to 30. Something only six other Lions have done.
• Her next game played will be 100 for Jadalynn Rodriguez and Jayda Jones is three away. 

Lions in the CACC (statistic minimums set by NCAA)
• Within the conference, Georgian Court has one of the most potent offenses. They rank in the top-five in nearly every offensive category.
• GCU leads the league in home runs with 21 and slugging percentage at .492. 
• The Lions baserunning has played a big part in their success. They are second in the CACC in stolen bases per game with 2.26. They also rank fifth in the nation in with 19 sacrifice flies.
• Individually, Adriana Mungo leads the CACC with 40 RBI.
• Taylor Lipkins 33 stolen bases are the most in the CACC and 10th in D2. She's yet to be caught this season.
• Jadalynn Rodriguez ranks sixth in the CACC with a .402 batting average. 
• Jayda Jones' 14 doubles are fourth in the conference. 
• Kaitlyn Stufft leads all of Division II with six sacrifice flies. She's also second in the CACC with 37 RBI.

About the Opponents
Caldwell Cougars
• Caldwell was picked to finish second in the CACC at the start of the season and that's where they currently sit with a 14-3 record.
• Playing at home, Caldwell is 12-0 this season
• As a team, Caldwell has a 1.58 ERA which leads the CACC and is eighth in the country.
• The staff has four pitchers with more than 44 innings pitched and an ERA below 2.00.
• Mariah Culver is 6-3 with a team-best 61.2 innings and 43 strikeouts and a 1.82 ERA.
• The Cougars don't give up many free passes with 128 strikeouts to just 50 walks. Their staff WHIP of 1.03 is 11th in Division II, tops in the CACC.
• At the dish, Courtney Grundhauser is hitting .394 with a team-best 37 hits including 13 extra-base hits.

Jefferson Rams
• Jefferson is fighting for a playoff spot with a 5-9 league mark they are tied for eight in the standings.
• After a seven-game losing streak, Jefferson has split their last two doubleheaders.
• The Rams have been logging plenty of travel miles. They've played just four games at home and are 1-3.
• Gianna DeLorenzo is 7-5 this season with a 2.53 ERA. She's struck out 54 and walked just six. That 9-1 strikeout to walk ratio is eight in the nation.
• Angelina Sherba has also pitched well. She's got a 2.65 ERA but is just 4-5 with 56 strikeouts in 63.1 innings.
• Pitching hasn't been an issue for the Rams, but their offense ranks eighth in the CACC scoring just 3.43 runs per game.
• Emily Akelatis is fourth in the league hitting .423.
• In the power department, Jefferson has just five home runs and are slugging .349.
