Lions Finish Regular Season With Three Straight Doubleheaders

LAKEWOOD, NJ (April 23, 2023) - The CACC Softball regular season comes to an end this week and it'll be a busy one for Georgian Court with three consecutive doubleheaders.

Previously vs. Chestnut Hill
• Georgian Court has made it a one-sided rivalry with CACC foe Chestnut Hill.
• The Lions are 26-2 all-time against the Griffins.
• Last season the Lions swept the doubleheader 8-0 in five innings and 8-4.
Kaitlyn Stufft homered and drove in a pair in game one.
• GCU scored eight unanswered in game two helped out by five stolen bases. 

Previously vs. Caldwell
• There aren't many teams Georgian Court has a losing record against but Caldwell is one of them. All-time GCU is 33-39 against the Cougars. 
• These two teams split last season. Caldwell took the opener 2-1 before the Lions roared back with a 10-2, six-inning win in game two.
• Mikayla Gilgert was the hard-luck loser in game one. Both of Caldwell's runs were scored on sacrifice flies.
• The Lions run came on a home run from Taylor Lipkins, the only one thus far in her career. 
• Game two saw the Lions break a 2-2 tie by scoring the final eight runs of the game. GCU scored at least a run in all six innings.
• Kaitlyn Stufft homered twice and drove in five. 

Previously vs. Holy Family
• Georgian Court and Holy Family have met more than 60 times with GCU leading the all-time series 45-16.
• Last season GCU took all three games against the Tigers. They swept the regular season doubleheader 4-0 and 7-3. 
• The two teams met again in round one of the CACC Tournament, a 5-1 Lions win.
• Holy Family scored in the first inning in that postseason game, but Mikayla Gilgert shut them down the rest of the way.
• After tying the game in the second, the Lions used a four-run third to take the lead for good. 

Last Time Out
• Georgian Court split their second doubleheader of the week at home against Dominican.
• GCU led 7-5 in the seventh, but the Chargers scored three in the inning to take an 8-7 lead.
• The Lions got the tying run to third base, but left Coco Dunham stranded there.
• Game two was all Lions. Janelle Blaszka allowed just one run on three hits.
Jadalynn Rodriguez drove in two in the second. Kaitlyn Stufft finished with two doubles and two RBI.

Who's Hot?
• Jayda Jones was last week's CACC Player of the Week. She continued that hot hitting this week going 7-14 in four games with three doubles and six runs batted in. 
• Kaitlyn Stufft has a 19 game hitting streak, the longest for a Lion this season. She has 25 RBI in those 19 games as well.
• Taylor Lipkins has 26 hits in her last 53 at bats with 21 runs scored and at least one in 15 straight games. 
Janelle Blaszka pitched to a 0.70 ERA last week allowing one earned run in 10 innings.
• Adriana Mungo is riding a 10-game hitting streak with 12 hits and 12 runs in those games. 
• Jadalynn Rodriguez has a hit in seven straight games with seven RBI. 

Individual Milestones
• Kaitlyn Stufft needs one home run to get to 30. Something only six other Lions have done.
• With one more at bat Taylor Lipkins will reach 200. She's four stolen bases away from the Lions single-season stolen base record. 
• Alyssa Herrera is five at bats away from 400.
Maddie Rabe is closing in on 100 innings pitched at 95.1.
• Two more RBI will get Taylor Barraza to 100.

Playoff Picture
• Georgian Court appeared in the first NCAA Regional Rankings. The rankings were listed alphabetically indicating who is in consideration for a bid. 
• GCU was ranked fourth in the NCAA performance indicator rankings.
• In the CACC Georgian Court clinched a spot in the tournament with their win Saturday over Dominican. 
• GCU is currently in fourth place but with at least four more games to play than the rest of the top-eight.
• The first round this season will be held on campus sites with 1-4 seeds hosting Seeds 5-8 need to win two games to advance. The high seeds need to just win once. 

Lions in the CACC (statistic minimums set by NCAA last updated 4/21/23)
• Within the conference, Georgian Court has one of the most potent offenses. They rank in the top-five in nearly every offensive category.
• GCU leads the league in home runs with 26 and slugging percentage at .507.
• With 6.95 runs per game, GCU leads the CACC and is 19th in the nation in scoring offense. 
• The Lions baserunning has played a big part in their success. They are second in the CACC in stolen bases per game with 2.31. They also rank sixth in the nation in with 20sacrifice flies and fourth with 24 triples. 
• Taylor Lipkins 40 stolen bases are the most in the CACC and ninth in D2. 
• Jadalynn Rodriguez ranks sixth in the CACC with a .409 batting average. 
• Jayda Jones' 16 doubles are fourth in the conference. 
• Kaitlyn Stufft leads all of Division II with six sacrifice flies. She's also third in the CACC with 47 RBI.
• Adriana Mungo is fourth in the league with 45 runs batted in. 
• In the circle ,Janelle Blaszka leads the CACC with three shutouts. 

About the Opponents
Chestnut Hill Griffins
• Chestnut Hill snapped a four-game losing streak with a 9-1 win Saturday over Alliance.
• The Griffins are just 7-35 this season and 4-15 in the CACC.
• With one more loss, Chestnut Hill is eliminated from CACC Tournament contention.
• Pitching has been an issue with a team ERA of 7.93. Gabriella Quinones has pitched 94.2 innings and is 4-9 with a 6.37 ERA.
• The Griffins have just two home runs all season. Their .242 slugging percentage is next to last in all of Division II.
• The team is hitting .204. Skyler Cunningham leads the team hitting .320 with 13 RBI.

Caldwell Cougars
• Caldwell is battling for the regular season championship at 19-3. They trail Wilmington who is 21-3. The two teams split during the regular season.
• The Cougars haven't lost at home this year and are 18-0. They've also won eight straight.
• Caldwell boasts one of the best pitching staff's in Division II. They have a team ERA of 1.73 with their top three pitchers all sporting a sub 2.00 ERA.
• Caldwell has four pitchers that have thrown between 63-79 innings this season. Mariah Culver is 7-3 with a team-best 14 starts.
• Olivia Kennedy has 57 strikeouts in 65.2 innings and 0.78 WHIP.
• At the plate, Maya Rodriguez is hitting .412 with a .466 on-base percentage.
• Ashleigh Tavaska has a team-best 35 RBI. 
• Caldwell doesn't hit many home runs, just eight on the season. 
• The Cougars are a strong defensive team with a .962 fielding percentage which leads the lead.

Holy Family Tigers
• Holy Family has clinched a playoff spot and are 12-10 in the CACC.
• Overall, the Tigers are just 16-26 and are 6-9 playing on the road.
• The Tigers are middle of the pack in just about every category in the CACC.
• They have a team ERA of 4.63. Paige Tidaback is 5-6 with a 3.79 ERA. Makenna Patterson leads the team with 86.1 innings pitched.
• Madison Grubb leads the team with 24 RBI and 12 doubles.
• Rylee Hobel is hitting .360 with a .425 on-base percentage.
