Lions Track and Field Finds Success at Stockton Open

GALLOWAY, NJ (April 8, 2023) - Georgian Court Track and Field was in action over the Easter Break. They were up at the Stockton Open and saw nine event winners and two school records.

Jumps
• In the men's pole vault, Jan Volkmar hit the NCAA qualifier 15-9.75 and won the event.
• Julian Rodriguez soared to a new personal-best 14-1.25 and finished fourth. Sean Donnamaria, jumping for the first time at Georgian Court, took 10th place clearing 11-1.75 which already puts him fifth all-time in school history.
• Jeshurun Devero had another event win for the Lions jumping 47-10 in the triple jump.
• Shanae Rayside bettered her own school record in the triple jump with a mark of 38-10.25 to win the event.
• The Lions went 1-3 in the women's triple jump. Behind Rayside Jaison-Ashley Pleva was second jumping 37-6 which is a new personal-best and moves her to fourth all-time. Aniyah Russell finished third at 36-5.75.
• Elena Martinez-Rodriguez and Julia Kirschnick had top-10 finishes as well. Martinez-Rodriguez jumped 35-5.5 for sixth place and Kirschnick 33-11.5 for ninth. That's also an PR for Kirschnick and puts her ninth all-time at GCU.
• In the long jump, Russell picked up another event win jumping 17-8.5.
• Martinez-Rodriguez and Rayside finished back-to-back in seventh and eighth place. Martinez-Rodriguez jumped 15-7.75 and Rayside 15-5.5 Ingrid Zuniga-Rivera placed 13th at 14-9.25.
• Tiffany Parajon represented GCU in the high jump. She cleared 4-9.75 and tied for sixth place. 
• Kirschnick was also the winner of the women's pole vault. She jumped 10-8. Nina Casalino tied for third jumping 8-8.25.

Throws
• It was a great day Friday for the hammer throwers. Robbie Babson finished second in the event throwing a personal-best 162-9. That moves him up three place to second all-time in Lions history.
• Elena Keck threw a personal-best 147-3 in the hammer to finish fourth. Sheridan Martinez hit a personal-best 113-10 to finish 12th and that puts her sixth all-time at GCU.
• Keck finished the day throwing 37-11.25 to place second in the shot put. Ingrid hit a personal-best throwing 32-1 for 11th place. 
• Babson also won the shot put Saturday afternoon throwing 52-2 and was 11th in the discus throwing 115-5. 
• Joseph Sauchelli had a top-five finish in the javelin placing fourth at 176-8.
• In the women's javelin, Martinez had a second-place finish throwing 122-2.
• Julia Kirschnick took sixth with a PR throw of 100-10, her first time throwing 100 feet in the event. Nina Casalino was 12th at 79-2 and Jaison-Ashley Pleva 14th at 76-8.
• Saturday saw the discus competition. Keck had a sixth place finish throwing 104-8 and Martinez took 14th throwing 98-6. 

Distance
• There were two first-place finishes in distance events. Alec Valle set the school record Friday night in the 10,000m. He won the race in 32:38.01, smashing the seven-year old record by 2:12.
• Kyle Spector led the field in the 3,000m steeplechase. He ran 9:55.22.
• Valle came back on Saturday to run in the 1500m. He had another top-10 finish running 4:13.96. That time is good for 10th in school history. Thomas Rosky ran a personal-best 4:26.92.
• Freshman Joseph Jamolawicz ran a big personal-best in the 5,000m. His time of 16:37.85 placed 13th overall and puts him eighth all-time on the GCU top-10 list. 
• On the women's side, Amirah Beasley finished fifth in the 800m. Her time of 2:25.97 is just off of an outdoor personal-best. Niya Barden was 13th running 2:32.01. 
• Spector finished his weekend with a fifth place finish in the 800m. He ran 2:03.76. Dylan Navarro took 16th place running 2:08.53. 

Sprints/Hurdles/Relays
• The Georgian Court women placed 1-3 in the 100m hurdles. Jaison-Ashley Pleva led the group with a personal-best time 15.60. Shalom Adzakro finished second in 15.66 and Julia Kirschnick was third in 16.28.
• Aliyah Thorpe placed sixth overall in the 400m run with a time of 1:03.47. Molly Burns was 15th in 1:07.60.
• For 100m, Yanely Bohorquez-Gonzalez had a top-10 finish placing 10th in 13.39. Samantha Lonseth took 22nd in 14.53.
• Those two also ran in the 200m. Bohorquez-Gonzalez placed seventh running 28.27 and Lonseth 18th at 30.35. 
• Selma Cazimoska ran in her 400m hurdle race at GCU. She finished seventh running 1:17.04.
• On the men's side, Jan Volkmar was .01 off of a personal-best in the 110m hurdles running 15.58 to take fourth place.
• The Lion men put together a 4x100m relay team. The group of Noah Roach Henry Jean-Michel, Julian Rodriguez and Dylan Breen completed the relay in 43.78 to place third. 
• Roach also ran the open 100m dash and placed forth in 11.08. 
• Georgian Court had three finish back-to-back-to-back in the 400m dash. Sean Donnamaria was fourth in 52.81, Terrell Moore fifth at 52.97 and Domenico Darcy sixth in 52.99.
• In the 400m hurdles, Will Spector took ninth place running 1:02.30 and Henry-Jean Michel was 11th at 1:05.66.  
• For 200m, only Wayne Robinson competed on the men's side. He ran 22.65 and finished in fifth place.

The next time the Lions compete will be April 19 at the Shippensburg Mid-Week Meet.
