LAKEWOOD, NJ (May 24, 2023) - This week is the 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships and Georgian Court is represented by a pair of athletes, one on the men's and one on the women's side.

National Rankings
• Coming into the championship meet, Russell ranks seventh in Division II in her event. She's just 6.16m - 20-2.5 this season.
• Volkmar has the fourth-highest score in the country entering the meet. He scored 7213 points in his lone decathlon of the season.

Georgian Court NCAA History
• This is Russell's third NCAA Championship meet and first outdoors. She was an All-American last year indoors in the long jump, finishing in fifth place and was 12th this season. 
• All-time GCU has sent four women to indoor nationals and seven outdoors. Russell is one of four Lion women to ever earn an All-American award.
• Russell can match Tiffany Okeime as the only Lions with multiple All-American honors.
• This season marks the first time GCU has been represented at both indoor and outdoor nationals. 
• Jeshurun Devero became the first Georgian Court male to qualify for the indoor national championships this past season.
• Volkmar can become just the second Lion male to be named an All-American.
• Michael Brazzel made three straight NCAA appearances in 2015-17 in the javelin and was a two-time All-American.

Personal-Bests
• Russell entered the CACC Championship meet on the outside of NCAA contention, but continually set season and personal-bests in three consecutive meets.
• After winning the conference meet jumping 19-9, she then improved to 19-10.25 five days later at West Point. Two days after that at Yale, she jumped 20-2.5 to move her into the top-10 in the country and secure her spot at nationals. All three marks were school records, which she already owned. 
• Volkmar only had one opportunity to compete in the decathlon this season and made it count. At Bucknell last month he scored 7213 points which was top-five in the country and remained that way throughout the season. 
• Volkmar holds the school record for the decathlon with his score from Bucknell, but he is also the school record holder in the pole vault and is in the all-time top-10 in the 100m, 110m hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot put, discus, and javelin. 

About the Decathlon
• The decathlon is a combined event consisting of ten track and field events. Events are held over two consecutive days and the winners are determined by the combined performance in all. Performance is judged on a points system in each event, not by the position achieved. For instance, a time of 11.0 seconds in the 100m dash will net a score of 861 points. Faster times will result in more points, slower times in fewer points.
