NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Aug. 22, 2023) - We're just nine days away from the start of the 2023 Georgian Court Women's Soccer season. With that, the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) has released their preseason coaches poll with the Lions picked to finish 10th in the league.
Last season the Lions finished 10th in the conference with a 3-5-4 mark in conference play and were 4-7-7 overall. The seven draws marked the most in a single season in program history.Â
Leading point-scorer
Aliya Canfield returns to the Lions this season as well as
Abby Kennelly who led the squad in assists and multi-goal scorers
Izzy Hernandez and
Bridgette King.Â
Georgian Court will be in search of a new goaltender. Senior
Alyssa Dias who started all 18 games last season graduated. Senior
Carley Polchak is one of five options to start in net along with three true freshmen and a junior transfer the Lions brought in for 2023.
CACC newcomer Bridgeport won the league in their first season with the conference in 2022. They were picked to finish first once again this season. Jefferson who was one spot behind the Purple Knights last year is projected for a second-place finish. Holy Family, Post, and Goldey-Beacom round out the rest of the top-five.Â
The Lions begin the season at home Thursday, August 31 against the College of Saint Rose. Conference season also begins at home Saturday, September 16 against Dominican.
