Women's Soccer Travels to Top Seed Jefferson on Thursday for CACC Tournament Championship Berth

LAKEWOOD, NJ (Nov. 13, 2024) - Georgian Court Women's Soccer advanced to the CACC Tournament Semifinals with a 2-1 win in extra time over No. 5 seed Bridgeport in Lakewood on Monday. The Lions travel to top seed Jefferson on Thursday with a spot in the championship on the line.

Last Time Out
• Chelsea Lavezzo's 100th-minute penalty-kick goal sent Georgian Court into the CACC Tournament Semifinals with a 2-1 win at home over Bridgeport on Monday.
• A three-goal first half powered Georgian Court to a 5-0 victory over CACC foe Post on Monday.
• After Bridgeport went ahead in the 21st minute, Sophia Ridolfo equalized just after halftime in the 50th minute. 
• With the golden goal rule in effect, Lavezzo's goal ended the match with 10 seconds left in the first overtime period.
• The Lions scored five goals in back-to-back matches for the first time since 2016, when they tallied five goals in three consecutive matches. 
• Georgian Court outshot the Purple Knights, 15-13, while both teams had five shots on goal.
• The Lions had the advantage in corner kicks, 8-2. 

Lions collect All-CACC accolades 
• Headlined by Chelsea Lavezzo's Rookie of the Year and All-CACC First Team honors, three Lions were awarded all-conference honors, the CACC announced on Monday. 
• Seniors Abby Kennelly and Corissa Robbins were each named to the All-CACC Second Team.
• It was the first All-conference team for each of the three recipients. 
• Lavezzo becomes the fourth Lion in the NCAA era to earn the CACC Rookie of the Year award, joining Kelly Lyons (2008), Elizabeth Kroon (2014), and Krystal Hund (2018). She's also the first Lion freshman to make the First Team since Hund in 2018. 

CACC Tournament notes
• If tied after 90 minutes, there will be two 10-minute overtime periods, if necessary, with the golden goal rule in effect. If the game is still tied after both overtime periods, the match will go to penalty kicks.
• The winner of the CACC Tournament will earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA East Regional Tournament.  
• The Lions are 32-18-2 all-time in the CACC Tournament.
• In 20 seasons under head coach Jim Moore, the Lions have advanced to the semifinals in 16 of their 17 postseason appearances. 
• The Lions have won nine CACC Tournaments in their history, three at the NCAA Division II level. Those three Division II CACC Titles came in 2008, 2010 and 2017. In 2017 they became the first CACC team to ever finish 15-0, going 12-0 in the regular season and 3-0 in the postseason.
• Under Moore, the Lions have made the CACC Tournament 17 times in 19 possible years (There was no CACC Tournament in 2020 due to COVID-19). 

Strong Regular Season
• With its 11-5-2 record, Georgian Court finished with its best regular-season record since 2019, when the Lions went 14-6-1.
• GCU's 8-3 record in CACC play is also its best since 2019, when it finished 9-2-1 in conference.

Lavezzo Levels Up 
• Following Monday's game-winning goal, star freshman Chelsea Lavezzo sits fifth in Lions' single-season history with 17 goals. 
• Kelly Lyons holds both the single-season goals record and goals by a freshman with 22 tallies in 2008.
• Lavezzo's 36 points is seventh-most in Lions' single-season history. 
• On Monday the forward was named CACC Rookie of the Year and selected to the All-CACC First Team. Lavezzo won the CACC Rookie of the Week award six times this season, with five of them coming in consecutive weeks.
• Lavezzo is the first Lion with two hat tricks in a season since Krystal Hund's 2018 campaign. 
• The freshman is the first Lion with five multi-goal contests since Lyons in 2010.

• Senior Jessica Ford is one match away from 70 in her career.
• Sophia Ridolfo is two matches away from 70 in her career.
• Senior Breana Parkinson is 25 minutes away from 3,000 in her career.
• Forward Chiamaka Wokocha is 64 minutes away from 1,000 in her career. 
• Abby Kennelly sits 9th all-time at GCU with 126 shots. Next up is Shannon Mastrogiovanni with 137 career shots.
• Chelsea Lavezzo sits sixth in Georgian Court single-season history with 70 shots. She is three shots behind Elisabeth Kroon for fifth place. 
• The freshman phenom is  10th all-time in Lions' history with 17 career goals. She is four goals behind Aliya Canfield for ninth all-time.
• Lavezzo sits fifth in Lions' single-season history with 17 goals. Next up are Kelly Lyons and Kroon with 18 scores.
• The forward's 36 points is seventh-most in Lions' single-season history. She is two points behind Lyons for sixth place.
• With two more assists, Breana Parkinson will move into the program's top-10 in a single season.

CACC Leaders 
• With 16 goals in her last 14 matches, Chelsea Lavezzo is third in Division II and first among freshmen nationally with 17 total goals. The total is the most goals by a Division II freshman since 2021.
• Lavezzo is also sixth in the nation and first among freshmen nationally with 34 points. 
• Breana Parkinson is fifth in the CACC with six total assists. 
• Seanna Boan is eighth in the CACC with five total assists. 
• Emma Bennett is third in the CACC and 27th nationally with a 0.859 save percentage. The senior also sits third in the conference with a 0.853 goals against average. 
• The Lions rank second in the conference and 24th nationally with 33 assists. 
• GCU is third in the CACC with 5.47 corners per match.
• GCU's average of 7.89 shots on goal per match is third in the conference.
• Georgian Court is averaging two goals per match, third best in the conference.
• The goalkeeper trio of Bennett, Delaine Wilkinson and Jaeleigh Tuccille have combined to allow just 19 goals in 19 matches for a 0.994 goals against average, good for third in the CACC. 

Who's Hot?
• Chelsea Lavezzo has broken out with 16 goals in her last 14 matches. She scored the game-winning goal in overtime on Monday.

• The CACC preseason favorites, Jefferson won the regular season conference title with a perfect 11-0 record. The Rams are 15-1-2 overall and have only conceded six goals this season. 
• Kiery Spatz's early second-half goal propelled Jefferson to a 2-1 win at home over No. 8 seed Holy Family in the CACC Tournament Quarterfinals on Monday. Holy Family's goal was the first the Rams allowed in five-plus matches.
• The program is seeking its 11th CACC Championship appearance and first since capturing the crown in 2021.
• The Rams have made each of the last five NCAA Tournaments.
• With a win on Thursday, Jefferson would tie its program record with 16 wins in a season, which was set back in 2011.
• The team's .889 win percentage currently stands as the highest in the program's 34-year history.
