Pair of Doubleheaders and CACC Opener on Tap For GCU Softball

LAKEWOOD, NJ (March 15, 2024) - Georgian Court Softball starts up the CACC regular season as part of a busy weekend with two doubleheaders.

Mercy Mavericks (2-6, 0-0 ECC)

• Both doubleheaders will be streamed live via a free-to-view broadcast on the CACC Digital Network, powered by HUDL. Live stats are also available on the Lions Softball schedule page. 

Previously vs. Bloomfield
• Georgian Court has been downright dominant over the Bears of late. They've won 11 straight and are 29-9 all-time.
• Last year in Lakewood, the Lions swept the Bears, outscoring them 18-1 and needing just five innings in game one and six in game two.
Janelle Blaszka threw a five-inning no hitter in game two while striking out four. 
• The Lions scored nine runs in each game, combining to hit three home runs.

Previously vs. Mercy
• Georgian Court has won four straight against Mercy to move their all-time record to 5-3.
• The last time these teams met was in 2021 with GCU sweeping 4-0 and 12-4.
• GCU gave up three in the first inning of game one, but answered with a five-spot in the home half and never trailed again.
• Samantha Fohrman struck out 10 in a game two shutout allowing just two hits. 

Last Time Out
• Georgian Court played their first home games of 2024.
• It was supposed to be a three-game set with Delaware State that turned into a doubleheader due to rain.
• GCU held the Hornets to just one run in each game, but split the doubleheader winning 5-1 in game one and dropping the second 1-0.
• Janelle Blaszka and Kahlen Cornell each went the distance allowing one run.
• Kaitlyn Stufft homered in game one. 

CACC Leaders
• Kaitlyn Stufft leads the CACC hitting .510 which is in the top-20 nationally. She also has a CACC best four home runs and .878 slugging percentage. 
• Stufft and Cheyenne Jackson are the top-3 in on-base percentage. Jackson's .527 is tops in CACC as are her 16 stolen bases. 
• Adriana Mungo's seven doubles are third in the conference. 
• Georgian Court is leading the CACC in team on-base and slugging percentage. 
• They have the most home runs and 6.14 runs per game tops the conference. 
• GCU's defense has turned a CACC-best seven double plays and their .961 fielding percentage is third-best. 

Who's Hot
• Kaitlyn Stufft has a hit in 13-of-14 games this season. 
• Janelle Blaszka has back-to-back complete game wins over Delaware State and Staten Island.
• Kahlen Cornell has allowed just six runs in her last 19 innings pitched.
Isabella Molina had RBI in each game of yesterday's doubleheader at Staten Island. 

Individual Milestones
• Jadalynn Rodriguez is one RBI away from 50. 
• Kaitlyn Stufft needs five home runs to become the third Lion to ever hit 40. 
• Janelle Blaszka is five innings away from pitching 200 and 11 strikeouts from 100. 
• Six more hits will move Adriana Mungo to fourth all-time at GCU. 

About the Opponents
Bloomfield Bears

• This weekend is also the start of CACC action for Bloomfield and also their first home games.
• The Bears are 3-9 this season with all but two of their games coming on the spring break trip in Winter Haven, Fla.
• In six of 12 games, the Bears have scoring one or fewer run and they're averaging 2.67 runs per game.
• Pitching has been a bright spot for the Bears with a team ERA of 3.29, fourth in the CACC.
• The staff is led by Danielle Walters who's pitched 27 innings with a 2.07 ERA and 12 strikeouts to eight walks.
• Rayn Romero has pitched in six games out of the bullpen and totaled 18 innings with a 2.29 ERA.
• Bloomfield's team batting average is .191. Naya Olacio has been their best offensive player with a .348 average and team-best seven RBI.
• Of the Bears 53 hits this season, just five have gone for extra bases, all doubles.
• On the defensive side, Bloomfield has a .935 fielding percentage with 20 errors.

Mercy Mavericks
• Mercy has played just eight games thus far and are 2-6 overall.
• It'll be a week since the Mavericks last played when they were in Melbourne, FL for their Spring Break games.
• Only twice this season have the Mavericks scored more than three runs.
• The strength of the Mavericks hangs on the arm of Angelina Oquendo. She has a 0.81 ERA in two starts with nine strikeouts and nine hits allowed in 17.1 innings.
• Mercy's offense is hitting just .209. Averi Miller leads Mercy with a .333 average and eight hits.
• On the basepaths, Mercy has stolen 14-17 bases.
• In eight games, the team has walked just 13 times and struck out nearly six times per game with 46 punchouts on the year.
• The Mavericks defense hasn't helped with a .934 team fielding percentage and 16 errors, two per game.
