Softball Hosts Delaware State This Weekend, Saturday Doubleheader Moved Up

LAKEWOOD, NJ (March 8, 2024) - Georgian Court Softball had to alter their schedule due to impending weather Saturday afternoon, but the home opener is still being played!

Previously vs. Delaware State
• This is the first ever meeting between the Lions and Delaware State. 

Last Time Out
• Georgian Court traveled to take on No. 15 East Stroudsburg.
• The Lions dropped both ends of a doubleheader. GCU scored the first two runs of the game, then were outscored 10-0.
• GCU fell in the first 7-2, then after a scoreless game two through five innings, a Warriors three-run home run was all the scoring needed in a 3-0 ESU win.
• Adriana Mungo picked up her 200th career hit and 50th career double in the doubleheader. 

CACC Leaders
• Kaitlyn Stufft is third in the CACC hitting .528.
• Stufft and Cheyenne Jackson are the top-5 in on-base percentage. Jackson has reached has 55% of the time and Stufft 52.6%.
• Stufft is also second in the CACC in slugging percentage at .889.
• Adriana Mungo's seven doubles lead the CACC and her .70 doubles per game are third in the nation. 
• Cheyenne Jackson has stolen nine bases, second-most in the league and her 1.5 runs per game also lead the conference. Mungo is second with 1.4 runs per game. 
• Georgian Court has scored more runs than any team in the CACC. They also lead the league in batting average and on-base percentage.
• GCU's defense is turning .60 double-plays per game, the fourth-highest in the country. They're .957 fielding percentage is second-best in the CACC. 

Who's Hot
• Kaitlyn Stufft was the CACC Player of the Week last week after going 14-24 with three home runs and 10 RBI. She's gotten a hit in nine of 10 games to start the season.
• Cheyenne Jackson picked up CACC Rookie of the Week honors after she hit .471 with a .654 on-base percentage, 12 runs and eight stolen bases.
• Janelle Blaszka struck out a career-high eight against Bowie State. 
• Adriana Mungo is 11 for her last 24 at the plate. 

Individual Milestones
• Jadalynn Rodriguez needs one stolen base to become the ninth Lion to reach 40. She also three RBI away from 50. She'll reach 300 at bats with 12 more. 
• Jayda Jones is three RBI away from 100 and three runs away from 75. 
• Alyssa Herrera is one at bat away from 450 and two doubles will make her just the fifth Lion to ever hit 40. She's also one stolen base away from 30.
• Kaitlyn Stufft will reach 150 games played with two more. 
• Janelle Blaszka's next start in the circle will be her 30th. 

About the Opponents
Delaware State Hornets

• Delaware State is the only Division I opponent on the schedule for Georgian Court, though GCU is not Delaware State's only D2 opponent.
• The Hornets have played five of their first eight games against other Division II schools. They're 2-1 with a sweep of Jefferson and a loss to Wilmington.
• Uxua Modrego Lopez leads the squad hitting .476 with 10 hits, including two doubles, one home run and 10 three. RBI.
• Kayla Lester is also hitting .400 with 10 hits and four runs scored. She's 3-3 in stolen bases.
• In the circle, DSU has gotten good starting pitching. McKenzie Yurcaba has a 1.56 ERA in 18 innings. She's pitched to contact with just six strikeouts, but has walked nine.
• Kristin White is 1-0 wit a 2.15 ERA in two starts. 
• The Hornets as a team have committed 14 errors and have a .944 team fielding percentage.
