Men's Lacrosse One Game Away From CACC Championship

LAKEWOOD, NJ (April 30, 2024) - Georgian Court Men's Lacrosse is back in the CACC Postseason playing in their semifinal round game tomorrow night.

Previously vs. Chestnut Hill
• The Lions and Griffins have a long history with the Griffins leading the all-time series 8-4.
• These teams have met in the postseason four times since the 2018 season.
• Most games have been defensive battles. In all four Lion wins, they didn't score more than 11 goals.
• Chestnut Hill has been held below 10 in four games and the Lions in seven.
• This year's regular season game was no different with Chestnut Hill coming out on top 9-7.
• Another defensive battle, the Griffins jumped out to a 5-1 lead midway through the second quarter.
• Trailing by five, 8-3, the Lions scored four straight at the end of the third and beginning of the fourth. 
Doug Mackenzie made it a one-goal game with 5:15 to play, but the Griffins put the game away with a goal with 2:16 left then forced two GCU turnovers.

Last Time Out
• It was a record-setting day for Georgian Court in their regular season finale.
• The Lions scored 28 goals in their 28-7 win over Felician.
• The 28 goals is a new single-game GCU record.
Brett Bridges also set a new GCU record and his 49 goals is the new single-season Lions record. He scored seven against Felician.

• Brett Bridges is third in the CACC scoring 3.06 goals per game. His eight man-up goals is second in the league and 10th nationally. 
• Doug Mackenzie is also racking up the power play goals. He has seven which is fourth in the league and 20th in the nation.
• Vincent Burkhart is fifth in the league making 11.88 saves per game. He's also third in save percentage, 53.2% and goals against average, 11.27.
• Garrett Kenny is fourth in the league winning 57.3% of his faceoffs. The Lions as a team are winning nearly the same percentage, 57.5% which is third.
• Justin Iannarone is winning 64.5% and would be leading the conference if he had enough attempts to qualify. 
• Offensively, GCU has the third best man-up offense converting 48.9% of their opportunities. That number is also fifth in the country.
• The Lions 14.69 goals per game is the second-most in the league this season and their 368 total points is third.
• The Lions 73.9% opponent clearing percentage is third in D2. 
• GCU has 39.38 ground balls per game, and 630 total ground balls. They lead the CACC in both ground ball stats.

Brett Bridges needs five points to set a new GCU single-season points record. Two more shots will get him to 200 as well. 
Tallen Smith can set a new GCU career record for goals with four more. He also needs nine points for a new school record in total points. 
• Vaughn Meehan is four ground balls shy of 100. 
• Three caused turnovers will get Joe Murphy to 40, something only three other Lions have ever done. 
Doug Mackenzie is two points away from 50. 
Millan Webster's next game played will be his 50th. Same goes for James Sanford who is one goal shy of 40.
Jordan Frank is one ground ball away from 60. 

CACC Postseason
• Georgian Court earned the No. 3 seed in the CACC Tournament. That gave them a bye into the semifinal round.
• As the No. 3 seed, GCU will play at No. 2 Chestnut Hill with the winner going on to play for the Championship Sunday, May 5th at Dominican.
• The other semifinal round matchup pits No. 1 Wilmington against No. 4 Post.

All-CACC
• Five Lions earned All-CACC honors this season.
Brett Bridges picked up All-CACC First Team for the second consecutive season.
Kyle Harms made his first All-Conference team, joining Bridges on the First Team.
Vincent Burkhart, Joe Murphy and Tallen Smith all made the CACC Second Team. All three also made the All-CACC team in 2023.

About the Opponent
Chestnut Hill Griffins

• Chestnut Hill finished the regular season in second place with a 7-1 league mark. They were 9-4 overall in the regular season. 
• The Griffins finished the year winning five straight and nine of their last 10.
• Chestnut Hill has been a different team at home vs. on the road. They're 6-0 playing at home and just 3-4 away from Philly.
• The Griffins have long had a strong defense and this season is no different. They're leading the CACC and are second in the country allowing 6.92 goals per game and haven't allowed more than 12 goals in any game this season. 
• Julius Sorino has been part of the reason for that with a 7.21 goals against average, second in Division II.
• CHC has been flagged 43 times games, but have allowed just nine man-up goals. The best shorthanded defense in the league and sixth in the nation.
• Chestnut Hill has taken a hit on faceoffs, winning 49.3%. Their 31.85 ground balls is also towards the bottom of the CACC.
• Offensively, CHC is up over 11 goals per game at 11.69. Noah Hammon leads the team with 36 goals and 55 points.
• Chestnut Hill is on the right side of the turnover margin losing the ball 240 times and forcing 268. They also clear the ball 84.9%, second-best in the CACC.
