Box Score LAKEWOOD, NJ (April 6, 2024) - Georgian Court Men's Lacrosse finished their week 2-0 as they defeated Dominican 16-7 Saturday afternoon. On senior day, the Lions used a 3-0 run in 50 seconds to take a 3-0 lead and never looked back, leading end to end to improve to 7-5 and 4-1 in the CACC.
How it Happened
• The Lions were downright dominant on faceoffs. They won 24-27 which helped lead to a 51-37 advantage in shots.
• Georgian Court got to more balls on the ground, 52-22.
• GCU did turn the ball over 22 times to the Chargers 12. The Lions were 19-21 on clear attempts and Dominican 19-25.
• Extra-man opportunities favored the Chargers. They converted 3-9 while the Lions were 0-4.
First Quarter
• Goaltenders were the story in the opening quarter. They combined to make nine saves in the first 10 minutes.
• Georgian Court finally broke through at the 4:30 mark as the senior
Tallen Smith scored the game's first goal.
• That started a rally for the Lions. Just 20 seconds later
Michael Schone picked up a ground ball in the defensive end, ran up field, fired a shot and scored.
• Thirty seconds later it was
Joe Zerr who made it a 3-0 game.
• Dominican finally beat Burkhart and with 2:35 left it was a 3-1 game.

Brett Bridges and
Harrison Jordan each scored for the Lions in the final 2:06 and Dominican got a goal with 35 seconds left as the Lions led 5-2 after one.
Second Quarter
• Dominican started the second scoring 1:05 on a man-up chance to get to within two, 5-3.
• Once again it took the Lions a bit to get going.
Doug Mackenzie scored for the Lions at the 6:30 mark, their first of the period.
• That started a stretch of seven straight GCU goals between the second and third periods.

Brett Bridges and
James Sanford each scored for the Lions who led by five, 8-3 at halftime.
Third Quarter
• Unlike the first half, Georgian Court got out to a fast start in the third quarter. Bridges scored again 51 seconds into the half.
• Less than a minute later,
Harrison Jordan made it 10-3 in favor of the home team.

Joe Zerr and
Tallen Smith put the Lions up nine, 12-3, midway through the third.
• Dominican popped a pair, but the Lions answered at the end of the frame.

Doug Mackenzie scored with 1:44 left and Bridges followed suit just 24 seconds later. Heading to the fourth it was GCU ahead 15-5.
Fourth Quarter
• There wasn't much scoring in the fourth, just two goals apiece, but that was more than enough for the Lions.
• Zerr scored another before two Dominican goals.
• Mackenzie finished the Chargers off with a goal with 3:08 to play and got us to our 16-7 final score.

• The Lions did match a team record, but a dubious one. Their 10 penalties match the most ever in a single game.
• GCU assisted on nine of 16 goals.
• Five different Lions scored the first five goals of the game. Seven total scored a goal for GCU.

Vincent Burkhart has held the last 10 Lions opponents to 10 goals or fewer.
