CACC Championship History
• Since the year 2000, the Georgian Court women have won six Cross Country Championships. Those came in 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007.
• The men hoisted their first trophy in 2022.
• The men's trophy was also the first for Head Coach Mike Murawski in cross country.
• Since 2000, only five men's teams and four women's teams have won team titles. For the women, Jefferson leads the way with 14 championships, including nine of the last 10.
• The Felician men have won the most championships with nine, followed by Wilmington with eight.
• The Wilmington men and Jefferson women have both won each of the last two championships.
• There will be a new individual champion on both sides this year. Joey Datta of Caldwell won the previous three CACC Championship meets and Ana Eshraghi the last two for the women. Both have since graduated.
Last Year's CACC Championship
• Georgian Court's men finished in sixth place last year with the women coming in seventh.
•
Nolan Kus finished in the top-5 to earn All-CACC honors for the men.
•
Amirah Beasley became a two-time All-CACC performer placing 12th in the 5K.
Last Time Out
• Georgian Court's final tune-up came at the Rowan Border Battle last Saturday.
•
Ryan Pettrow led GCU with a season-best time 27:10.8 in the 8K.
• The women ran a 6K race at Rowan with
Sophia Mauro leading the way running 25:12.4.
• Mauro,
Samantha Lonseth,
Gwendolyn Morris,
Nora Sprunger and
Brenna Sullivan all had season-best times in the 6K.
Lions This Season
• Georgian Court has had a mix of races this season, with the men having run four 8K races and two 5K's.
•
Ryan Pettrow and
Zachary Spoonire have each led GCU to the finish.
• The Lions have seen consistent seasons from
Colin Broadbelt,
Luke McCormick and
Matthew Schaub this season.
• The last couple of weeks, they've also gotten a boost from freshman
Stephen Lane who lengthens the Lions roster.
• On the women's side, freshman
Sophia Mauro has come into her own. She's continually improved and won a race three weeks ago at West Chester.
• Fellow newcomers
Gwendolyn Morris and
Nora Sprunger have also seen big improvements throughout the season. Sprunger recently set a 5K and 6K PR by roughly two minutes in back-to-back meets.
• The Lions have continued to rely on veterans
Kerry Ann Hohenshilt,
Samantha Lonseth and
Brenna Sullivan. This will be Sullivan's fourth CACC Championship meet, more than anyone else on either the men's or women's side.
CACC Award Winners
• With her race win on Saturday,
Sophia Mauro was named this week's co-CACC Runner and Rookie of the Week.
About the Meet
• The CACC does things a little differently. They are one of the only conferences that allow just seven per team to race.
• They are also one of the only conferences where the women race at the 5K distance.
• The course has a mix of grass, trails and challenging hills.
• Following the meet, there will be a trophy presentation honoring team winners. The top-15 individual finishers make up the All-CACC team.
