Baseball Alters Weekend Schedule with Caldwell

LAKEWOOD, NJ (April 11, 2025) - Mother Nature has not been kind to Georgian Court Baseball of late. She reared her head again this weekend as the Lions have adjusted their plans with Caldwell.

CACC Action
• Georgian Court plays in the CACC North Division, as opposed to the South like they do in Basketball and Volleyball.
• The CACC schedules inter-division games as weekend doubleheaders, Saturday and Sunday, with each team playing a home and away doubleheader.
• Out of division doubleheaders, are a single doubleheader played during the week. 

Last Time Out
• Georgian Court played a pair of single nonconference games at home this week.
• GCU competed well, but fell to Mercy 14-9 and Bloomsburg 11-3.

Israel Garcia returned to the line up and has a hit and a run in each game. 
Jack Greenspan has multiple hits in two of his last three. 
• Oliver Santana had his first three-hit game in game two Sunday vs. Bridgeport and has a hit in three straight. 
• Sammy Cruz is riding a four-game hitting streak. 
• Samir Lopez has 5.1 scoreless innings under his belt, plus a win in his last three outings.

• Israel Garcia leads the league in both slugging percentage and OPS. 
• Carter Rieben is third in hit by pitches with 17.
• Oliver Santana's three triples are tied for third in the league. 

About the Opponent
Caldwell Cougars

• Caldwell is scuffling having dropped four straight games.
• They're 16-17 this season and 9-13 in the CACC.
• At home, they're 10-5 while just 6-12 playing on the road.
• On the mound, Caldwell has an ERA of 8.06. Every pitcher who has thrown a pitch has an ERA greater than 5.00.
• Brandon Scalisi has made six starts and is 4-3 with a 5.31 ERA and 27 strikeouts.
• The team has nearly a 1:1 strikeout:walk ratio.
• Jared Jacobus has struck out a team-best 29 in 22.1 innings across five starts. 
• The Cougars can hit though and are just below .300 as a team hitting .294.
• They don't hit for much power with just 12 home runs in 32 games, but they love to play small ball. Their 132 stolen bases are in the top-10 in the country this season.
• Christian Rinick is hitting .342 with 25 stolen bases and 39 hits and 39 runs scored. He's got a team-best .456 slugging percentage as well.
• Stephen Young, Jr. has driven in 23 runs to lead the Cougars. He too has stolen 20 bags and is reaching base at a 47.7% clip.

Head Coach Arlan Freeman
• Coach Freeman is in his 15th season of collegiate coaching and seventh as a head coach. He Georgian Court is the second program he has started from the ground up, doing the same at St. Elizabeth University in Morristown, NJ.
• That came after his first head coaching stint at New Paltz, where he was head coach for two season, earning the SUNYAC Coach of the Year award
• He has spent time as an assistant coach at NCAA Division II Universities, Barry, Lynn and Felician and Division III Stevens Institue of Technology. 
• Freeman has also worked professionally within the Cape Cod League. 

Baseball at Georgian Court
• With the start of the Baseball season, Georgian Court now sponsors 16 sports, seven men's and nine women's.
Men's Sports: Baseball, Basketball, Cross Country, Lacrosse, Soccer, I/O Track and Field
Women's Sports: Acrobatics and Tumbling, Basketball, Cross Country, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball, I/O Track and Field, Volleyball

Inaugural Schedule
• The first eight games Georgian Court will play this year will all be on the road, against six different teams.
• Following their series against Erskine, GCU will play single games with Staten Island, West Virginia Wesleyan, New Haven, Lynn and Bentley.
• The Lions first ever home game will coincide with their first ever conference game. They host Post Saturday, March 15 at the Jackson Justice Complex.
• The CACC is split into two divisions, North and South, much like Basketball and Volleyball. However unlike Basketball and Volleyball, the Lions will compete in the CACC North Division this season.
• Georgian Court has 50 games on their schedule, 18 at home and 32 on the road. Of the 50, 36 are conference games.
