UNIONVILLE, Pa. (Sept. 5, 2025) - Georgian Court Cross Country kicked off their 2025 campaign at the West Chester Season Opener. Both the men's and women's teams competed with the women finishing in third place and the men in fourth.
The Lions totaled 91 points on the women's side to claim third place, ahead of CACC rival Goldey-Beacom. GCU was paced by
Gwendolyn Morris who ran 22:46.6 to finish in 23rd place for the 5K course. A pair of freshman finished back-to-back not far behind Morris.
Sophia Mauro was 25th in 23:09.8 and
Nora Sprunger 26th in 25:09.7.
Three other Lions crossed the finish line.
Brenna Sullivan was 30th in 26:36.0,
Kerry Ann Hohenshilt was 34th in 27:53.2 and
Samantha Lonseth 40th in 29:10.5.Â
Over on the mens side, the Lions were fourth among six teams.
Zachary Spoonire had a top-20 finish running 17:30.9 in the 5K race.
Ryan Pettrow took 25th in 17:59.1 and
Joe Jamolawicz was 30th in 18:10.3.Â
Behind those three,
Matthew Schaub took 33rd in 18:26.0,
Luke McCormick was 37th in 20:18.4 and
Colin Broadbelt finished 44th in 21:48.4.
Georgian Court raced at this meet a year ago and the distances changed for both the men and women. Last year's race saw the women run a 4K and the men competed in a 6K race.Â
Kutztown was the team winner on both the men's and women's side. They had a perfect score in the men's race sweeping the first five places.
Speaking of Kutztown, Georgian Court will be in action a week from tomorrow, Saturday, September 13 at the Kutztown DII/DIII Challenge for their next race.Â
