Throwers Have a Day at SPIRE Throws Festival

GENEVA, Ohio (Jan. 10, 2026) - The Georgian Court throwers got an early start in the 2026 indoor season. GCU sent a handful of athletes to Geneva, Ohio for a USATF sanctioned meet at the SPIRE Institute for the Throws America Throws/Jumps Festival.

• In the men's weight throw, Mark Linton bettered his own school record. He threw 57-7.5 on his final attempt to finish in fifth place and improved his best throw by 0.5 inches.
• Two other Lions also threw personal-bests. Cameren Anderson shot up to third all-time at GCU throwing 54-3.75 to finish in eighth place. Amir Spruell-Everson was 14th with a PR throw of 45-10.75.
Anthony Lorenzo threw 39-8 for 19th place.

• All the Lion men competed in the collegiate open shot put. Anderson led GCU throwing another personal-best 51-5.75. That throw was fifth in the competition and puts him sixth all-time in Lions history.
• Just outside the top-10 was Malicah Etienne in 12th place. He threw 47-9.25.
Guius Dabney and Spruell-Everson finished two places apart. Dabney took 16th with a throw of 44-9.5 and Spruell-Everson threw 42-8 for 18th place.
• Lorenzo finished with a mark of 39-3.25 for 23rd place.

It was a fun day for the discus throwers as they got to throw the disc during the indoor season, something they rarely get the chance to do.
• Kaydence Fisher took advantage with a second place finish. She threw 132-9 on her first attempt which held up throughout the competition.
Chiamaka Wokocha was fifth. Her best throw came on her last as she threw 124-11, nearly two meters better than any of her previous attempts.
• For the men, Etienne took seventh place with a throw of 152-9.

• Wokocha also competed in the weight throw where she threw 41-4.25 for 15 place.
• Finishing one spot ahead of Wokocha was Adrianna Fodera. Her mark of 42-11 on her first attempt was good for 14th place.

• Fischer later competed in the elite section of the shot put. She was eighth in that field with her mark of 34-3.50.
• Fodera threw in the open shot put. She hit 34-3 on both her third and fifth attempts which placed her fifth in the field.

The Lions will have their full team in action next week for the first time in 2026. They'll compete at the NYC Gotham Cup Friday, Jan. 16 at OceanBreeze in Staten Island.
